Our beautiful coloured pony has always been quite mad and very sharp, however she has started with a new set of tricks and wondered if anyone else had any input or new ideas?
She will stop dead (often in a corner) so she is napping I suppose, then do mini rears, bucks, spins and rodeo's and after a while will put head between her knees and take off, she also starts doing this 'thing' where she chomps her bit like crazy, eyes look like she has totally lost the plot, she will suck the shanks of her pelham into her mouth over and over and actually cut her gum whilst doing it on Saturday, its like a nervous tic almost.
She will do this whenever and wherever she is, doesn't matter if its in the indoor at home, hacking, jumping, and now at shows it would seem, doesn't matter if she has a different bridle on except she can't do the shank sucking, she will just chomp like mad. Sometimes my daughter will drop the reins and stroke her and she will chill and move on for a while, have tried riding with a schooling whip, but its as if whilst she is doing this she is unaware of anything else going on, the first time she did it I was on my way to catch our other pony so I wooped the lead rope behind her tail, she switched her brain back on and carried on working, but now nothing seems to distract her.
She was an in patient at a physio's in January and back and all other bits checked while she was there and thats all fine and was an out patient of the physio's until May and last time she was seen was still ok, tack fits fine, physically she is well, she is seen by a vet regularly as and when needed for an old injury that has needed monitoring but is now fully healed.
It started in late May/early June, so I was thinking maybe hormonal? It did seem to occur once then be ok for a few weeks then start again, this last one has lasted for 2 weeks, she will just randomly be barking mad one day and fine the next etc etc She is usually quite flat in Winter and seems to be 'switched off' so this again makes me think hormonal, could do without added expense of Regumate long term
Any ideas for supplements, calmers, techniques etc
