Hi, I think perhaps it may be a good idea to remove the sticky about non-returned cups in the Lounge Area. I feel a bit like a fraud as I seemed to be the only secretary on there with the problem!!! It was a good idea at the time and when I 'named and shamed' people on another thread the result was very good.
Perhaps it could go in another category which isn't closed-shop, members only, and sit there for a while until the shows start up again in the spring.
Thanks, again.

I'll just unsticky it and then it can be found using search if anyone needs it again in future.

Hey - I'm sure others will use it too - don't forget that most trophies have only just gone out this summer, and won't be coming back in for quite a few months yet!!!!

.......... and sit there for a while until the shows start up again in the spring.Yes, I agree. That's why I suggested the above. We had our post-show meeting today and the consensus is that we will probably not be awarding so many trophies next year (normally 53). Despite having written receipts with addresses and phone numbers we still were 10 cups down only a few days before the show, most of which were not local. This year we had to award all the cups as usual because it was already stated in the Schedule and fortunately most of our winners came from the immediate area. Next year we are having a complete re-think and perhaps only award trophies in certain classes, though how we decide which, Lord only knows!!!

What about a levy D4U? I went to judge at a "members" only show this year. Cups were awarded to first place, If the members wanted to take the cups home, they had to pay £5. I think thats a good idea. The £5 will be returned when the cup is returned. Ok it's only £5 but it's £5 towards the next cup.. if it's not returned... It just helps towards the cost.
We "our RC" have the same problem as everybody else. People not returning cups, etc. Mainly for the overall point champions. Touchwood we do manage to have got them back over the years.. Lots of Mileage by committee members but we got them back. We do state that if cups are not returned by the last point show.. then the member will lose all their points for the year. WE do get some members forgetting and don't like the fact, they have lost all their point.. but we find it works. We do give grace... that if they do forget them... they can't return them by the end of the show. Can say fairier than that!
As for the trophy shows we give keepsakes.. the only ones that are returnable are the supreme & reserve championship ones. So thats only two. So far, they have been returned!

Thanks for the idea, flashthecash, but as you can see from my previous thread:- horsegossip.proboards54.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1189366504We introduced a £10 deposit about three years ago which works up to a point, but there are unfortunately a small amount of people out there who obviously don't need it. After all it's about the price of two packets of ciggies!!! We did consider stepping it up from £10 to £20 but that didn't seem fair on the genuine winners who went out of their way to get the trophies back to us in good time. Next year we will only let a certain amount go to bona fide local residents/hunt members/supporters. It's such a pity when a few spoil it for the majority. This year we awarded medals etc. which apparently went down really well. The main one which is still missing is the Gill Pearce Perpetual Challenge Cup which dates back to the early 60's with nearly every winners' name engraved on two plinths. The last winner of that trophy was Hannah Pearson who won the Brineton Show Pony Autumn Qualifier in 2006. I can't trace the name of the pony, unfortunately. The address given was that of Julie Pearson and when I visited said address I found a lady who had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and didn't know one end of a horse from another. But I haven't given up yet, someone, somewhere, will recognise this name, which I named and shamed on quite a few forums!!! I might try the 'showring' forum, if that is the correct name of the website. Thanks, anyway.
