What do guys think? I rode my mare to for the first time in 18 months and she loved it! Her 9 week old foal loved it as well as she thought it was a game. But then she was tired and lay in the field and watched her mum go up and down the field. Afterward my mare looks ever so happy wit herself.

lol...bless the little foal ;D we have done this with our mares, the foals love it ;D we never over did it just had a little bob round on the mares  |

I am about to to it with my big traditional. Was just going to go for hack round fields slowly.
Did you just tack mare up and get on? Some have said to lunge first but don't want lola running round in circles following mum

years ago i rode my mare with foalie tagging along (3mths) just hacking around fields was interesting when foal wanted to feed used to stop dead infront and suckle eventually foal stayed in field while mum had a school in arena. ps never lunged, by the way mine was a filly my friends colt used to jump all over mum so gave it up as a bad job:)

Ditto above..just tacked up and went LOL...... never lunged as frightened of foaly getting caught up. Friends colt also started jumping up but it was great fun to watch LOL...happy days ;D

yes, going back a bit as well - but found riding a previously County/National shown mare in the field (we never had an arena!) with her 2 month old foals at foot was very helpful in later showing the foals.
As in command 'walk' and walk the mare - foal does likewise, trot - same, and most important 'whoa' - foal does learn your voice - made foal shows Sooo much easier!

I rode her today. She was fantastic! Such a good girl! Was lovely to be back on her!
Lola her foal was a little bugger. She thought it was the best game ever! At one point she tried to climb up with me for a scratch! Lol! I loved it!
