Any advice/input welcome!!
When I got home from work last Friday my dog had destroyed a load of plants, and chewed through the gate. This is completely out of character, she hasn't chewed anything since being a pup, she's 10 and 1/2 now, she was obvously trying to get out/escape. There was blood everywhere, all up the wall and around the floor where the gate is. She was very adjataited (sp?) and anxious, and had sore feet. We took her to the vet who examined her feet - no marks on the pads, and the front claws weren't really worn down (apart from one dew claw which looked like it'd been caught on something), but the back claws were worn down, think this is where the blood was from.
I explained it was completely out of character, and he said maybe she's had a fit and not known where she is? He gave me some epilipsey pills and said to keep an eye on her. The pills totally knocked her out to the point of not being able to lift her head off her bed, so I didn't carry on with them.
I was off work last week, so have been able to keep my eye on her.
To cut a long story short (ish!), the cat keeps bringing in shrew type creatures, alive and letting them go. They get under the carpet and sofa and make a high pitched squeek. The cat catched them eventually and kills them, and we also try to catch them and release them if possible! But whenever she catches the shrews it really upsets the dog. She pants uncontrolably (sp), tries to hide, tries to escape, gets up on your knee, shakes, she's just petrified. She catches mice herself, so I really don't know why they upset her so much.
So, any ideas? I wondered about trying to get her so sort of calms. I can't stop the cat catching shrews or anything else, we have fields right behind our house, so she has a ready supply!
All ideas/suggestions welcomed.
Thank you!
