Im searching for a stallion to put to a 157.5 mare with top class bloodlines . She is full sister to one of the foremost hack stallions around at the moment . I would like a full thoroughbred , as i dont want any arab . Also the stallion would have to be smaller than her as she is a maiden mare and im hoping to breed a small hack any suggestions/advice gratefully received ?

I certainly would not rule out a hack stallion who has some Arabian blood. We have an Anglo Stallion and Hack breeders seem to want a bit of Arab blood, which gives that extra presence and action and might I add, imparts a nice temperament....there is also the added advantage of having another class to compete in i.e. Cherif Championships (Anglo & Part Bred Arabs) Babs www.SunrayAngloArabianStud.co.uk

hi babs , thanks for your reply , i know what you mean ...
the mare is a part bred , she competes in both classes . i would like a full tb for her though, i think the mix would be perfect .

Thanks for that....Very difficult finding a small full TB stallion, at the moment, can`t think of one. Will look through my TB stallion Books and see if I can locate a suitable stallion for you. E-Mail me a pic of your Mare and I may be able to recommend a stallion who I think will be suitable. sunraystud@aol.com Where are you located?? Babs www.SunrayAngloArabianStud.co.uk

I was expecting a small hack out of my large hack (155.8cm) TB maiden mare, put her to a 14.2 riding pony/pba and the foal looks like she will end up a small riding horse! So I would go for something with a bit of riding pony or Arab if you're after a hack!

groomsbridge stud have a full tb who is 15.2. Apart from that I can't think of many small ones, or any smaller than that although I'm sure there must be some. It may be worth contacting her as she may be able to help you anyway if her's is still too big.

I would also agree with the others though that a riding pony may be what you need to produce a small hack. I would have thought that even a small tb would quite likely have 'taller' genes in there! I have covered my tb ex race mare with my 14.2 pba stallion to hopefully get what you are aiming for too!

Dolphin Supreme is 15.2 TB but this would probably make bigger than a small hack too... If you'd like to see a pic of mine pm me and I'll email you some, her legs are never ending and mum and dad aren't that tall! I've put it down to the mare having lots of tall TBs in her line on one side!

I agree with the others above. Avoiding Arab blood will limit your chances of producing a)what you want and b) the choices open to you. Only TB I can think of is Groomsbridges May I.

I have a 15.2hh TB stallion. He is a lovely quality boy and a true hack stamp and was bought to go under saddle but due to a knock to the knee is now covering. His 1st crop of foals from all types of mares have been out standing and very true to type. He also has the most super temp which he seems to be passing onto his youngstock. Hope that helps www.dowhillsstud.com

Have a look at Trudy's stallions at End House Stud. She has a 15.2 TB, Redoubtable, and also the stunning Aimbry Chester and his son Thursden Valley Raphael, British Sports Ponies, throwing wonderful stock. A very friendly stud, and in Gisburn, Lancs :-)
