Does anyone know if there is any accomodation near the arena, as its a good 4 hours for us to get there so we'd be forced to stay over, but i now only have a trailer and sleeping in it in oct seems like asking for frost bite!

i think its a good idea that bsps are changing the venue every few years, as it gives everyone a chance from around the country to compete! Xx

Did anyone who went to Royal London have any views on the facilities etc at the new venue? Trying to decide whether to send entries in or give it a miss. I had a little look on one of the 'Youtube' video's and there did not look to be any seating in the indoor arena. Anyone know if BSPS are going to hire some in for the evening performances or if there is seating but you just could not see it. Will the rings be on surface or grass? So many questions!!!

Don't know how they'll set it out for BSPS hopefully Royal London will have given Onley chance to practise and try and perfect things for BSPS. There is a large outdoor sand school which wasn't used much but could be for you, used mainly split in 2 for prejudging and the odd class, a smaller indoor school which we used as a collecting area and warm up for main ring (no -seats except a few near bar area behind the much discussed on another thread dressage markers, Presumably they'll have barriers there next time). Most rings miles away on grass but again, perhaps they'll change that for you, maybe they were saving the ground closer for Heritage?? If the loo block and showers are finished they'll be OK - temporary ones weren't great. Nice and level ground for parking but the hardstanding parking was very stoney - grass parking much better but then it was dry and sunny - not so sure about using it in Oct!
That any help? Those use to peterborough it's not in that league but it was OK - been to worse. Take a decent hoof pick it is stoney round the main arena (maybe that'll be sorted though by then). It was a work in progress, not sure how much will be completed for Oct but hopefully a few teething problems at least will be done
Dun Cow nice, there is a B&B linked on the Onley website which looked OK - everything very booked up so we didn't get in anywhere. Dominos wouldn't deliver, but allegedly there is an Indian takeaway in nearest village if anyone has a car and if the catering isn't better for you guys!

Thanks haggismarmite. The entries are so pricey, but nagging child really wants to go!! Many places seem to have stoney areas which isn't good for the little ponies with no shoes. Still can't decide!!!!!

there is a bit of seating in the indoor school arena, althou not hugh, the main outdoor arena has just been extended so that is mega big but no veiwing gallery, car/lorry park very stoney toilet block not yet finshed drive up to centre still a bit tricky for two way traffic there are passing bays, don,t know if any rings will be on grass. plenty to be done before heritage champs. ps indian/pizza takeaway and fish n chip shop in dunchurch 2mles away

I think you will find that bsps have a good health and safety officer, I saw no evidence of one at rl.

Had an email from BSPS to confirm that there will be 2 outdoor rings on surface, 1 indoor ring and one smaller indoor area for working in on the flat. No grandstand in the indoor arena, just standing room and a balcony. Rosettes only to 6th unless classes are 'large'.

ive noticed they still taking entries well over the closing date, which is unlike the bsps...do you think they struggling for entries??? I was fully intending on going, but with the entries been so steep and with everything else it was gonna cost me a small fortune...does anyone else think 28 quid for the training stakes is a rip off???

We were due to go was looking forward to it but on hearing there was no grandstand etc and reports of the stone in the parking etc I felt for £28 a class it was not worth it would work out cheaper to just do a normal show.

Prices are definately steep. The training stakes seem like a good idea but very expensive. I did ask if there were many entries for the classes but they did not answer this question when they emailed me back. I did hear that they were still accepting entries for the Summer Champs about a week before the actual show.

We are still undecided as to whether to go - really wanted to this year but Di Hesford is judging 3 out of a possible 5 classes i could do - Blue Riband Ridden, PP Ridden B & C's and Open WHP - and Spud doesn't seem to be her type.
With entries so high I don't no if i can justify it for a judge that int very good for me - specially when she is judging nearly all my classes!! At £28 an entry im sure they could bring in a few more judges!

We arent bothering as its quite a drive. Would probably have gone if it had been at Arena UK but never been to onley and dont know what facilities are like. At least we know what to expect at Arena UK if it rains!!! Good luck if you go Stef x

you must remember that there are TWO judges so that can help if you think one of the judges does not like your animal,
i think these champs are very good as they are quite relaxed and good fun

Have to say Stef we decided not to go for exactly the same reasons! She is not a fan of ours either and to whilst there are 2 judges I could not justify the expense of stabling etc for 2 classes - this year there is not an inhand class either. Shame as I do love the show and agree sallie that they are relaxed and good fun, if we had a novice or restricted to take then would have gone. I have heard they are still taking entries and so far weather is still good so hope all who go have a great time. Good Luck.
