Tara (indian chance) 11/3/78 - 4/8/2010

Sorry i have not posted for a while but sadly i lost my beloved foundation mare yesterday after a short illness. Tara was not just a brood mare but my friend and companion since aquiring her in september 1978 as a weanling foal. She was and still is the reason Elmdale stud exists as everything i have ever bred is from her daughter line. We had an unspoken bond that took us through 3 decades together and today I feel so empty as i have lost a true friend. RIP My sweet Tara, and i promise to look after your family.xxx

MAYBE IT WAS DOWN TO FATE,
WAY BACK IN SPRING OF 78,
WHEN A BAY FILLY WAS FINALLY BORN,
ON A COLD AND FROSTY MARCH MORN.

I DID NOT KNOW THAT SOME DAY,
THAT LITTLE FILLY WOULD COME MY WAY
JUST BY CHANCE I SAW THE ADD,
AND SCRIBBLED THE NUMBER ON A PAD.

WHO WILL TAKE ME WAS MY PLEA??
THESE ARE FOALS I NEED TO SEE,
WHEN WE ARRIVED AT WOODGREEN STUD,
WE DONNED OUR BOOTS AND BRAVED THE MUD.

THEN IN A FIELD NOT FAR AWAY,
A GROUP OF MARES WITH FOALS AT PLAY,
MOSTLY PUREBREDS AND VERY NICE!
COMMANDING QUITE A HEALTHY PRICE!

THEN I SPOTTED THIS FILLY FOAL,
ON HER BACK HAVING A ROLL!
UP SHE JUMPED WITH A START!!
THEN GAZED AT ME AND STOLE MY HEART!

I WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT OCCURED,
IT SORT OF HAPPENED WITHOUT A WORD!
PAYING MY DEPOSIT I RUSHED BACK HOME,
SPREADING THE NEWS OVER THE PHONE.

WE HAVE SHARED SO MUCH THROUGH THE YEARS,
LAUGHTER SADNESS EVEN TEARS!
TARA HOW CAN I EVER SAY,
WHAT YOU MEAN TO ME TODAY.

AFTER 32 YEARS SIDE BY SIDE,
THESE ARE FEELINGS I CANNOT HIDE,
ELMDALE STUD JUST WOULD NOT BE,
SO THANKYOU TARA FOR PICKING ME.

Thankyou all for your kind words they mean so much I feel a little better today but still so empty inside. Her grandson Eric is keeping me smiling as he is full of life! i have told him he has got to fly the flag for his nannie now

Vjc, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beautiful mare, it is heart wrenching at anytime, but when these friends of the family pass away after doing such a loyal time with yourself you wish they could go on forever. She will always be here living on through her beautiful children.

Thankyou all, your kind words are such a comfort. Holiday i am sure she has found Mona as Tara was always one to go and explore her new surroundings ! ;D A very strange thing happened today, i am a great believer in fate so when i went along to a local show to support some of my friends showing there I bumped into the vet that used to treat Tara many years ago when she was a young horse, he Retired about 20 years ago and moved to Wales. He always liked Tara and when we saw him by accident in llangollen about six years ago he asked about the horses especially Tara. Today at this local show i bumped into him again and he asked about her once more! He was very saddened to hear i had lost her How wierd is that, this vet just happened to be at our local show just days after we lost Tara and that just by chance i bumped into him amongst the crowd.
