i used a haynet with tiny holes in it for my foalie from a few weeks old and he was fine. I just made sure it was tied up really high so no little legs would get caught in there x

we use haynets but tie them high up so the foals cant get their feet in them! We only buy the haylage nets with small holes so no hooves can get caught! Our ponies wont contemplate eating hay off the floor! Far too common for them! lol

LOL they all do it or sleep on it!!!!!! I wouldnt use haynets at any cost with the babies, had one caught up once and badly injured and that was tied up high and tight, but once the hay had been half eaten out baby decided to hang itself in it!!!!!!! Fortunately we heard her and cut her free at 2am in the morning!!!!!!! She had the scars to prove it!!!!!! Definate no no for me!!!!!!!!

for the first time this year i have used haynets from birth. tiny holes ones way up tight and put a few in dotted round stable with less hay so wouldnt hang down when empty. otherwisw hay everywhere. mine all out at gras and have been for past few months so not getting any hay, just pure grass.

Well I use very small hole 40mm Haynets....even very small foal hooves can`t become entrapped. They are called Trawler Nets and have a huge capacity....save time and effort, as for horses, ad lib, only need filling once a day, Ponies every 2/3 days The haylage nets have 80mm holes and a foal could get a leg trapped so only use the 40mm. Purchased a dozen, some five years ago. They are not cheap but still as good as new, horses do not chew them. Do like to use haynets as I need to monitor intake. We tie them high and thread tie loops back through the net. Benefits are that the small holes mean horses have to eat slowly, no waste trodden into bedding and fouled or peed on Babs www.SunrayAngloArabianStud.co.uk
