Hi, I have bought a property with 10 acres but only able to afford it by going in with my husband, mum and step-father so playing happy families all in a house together - aargh!! Don't know whether clubbing together with other family members might be an option for you? We are doing ours up and hoping to sell in a couple of years and move up to the next level.
lot of people rent yards so it might be worth you lookinh into what's about in your area?

Personally I think you have to be honest about why you want to breed ponies? With the market absolutely flooded with unwanted, low value animals (and it has to be said Welsh are a big percentage) you certainly are not going to make money. To do it properly you need to invest money, the one thing you have mentioned is tight.
So why do you want to breed ponies?

same as above it is the wrong time to get into breeding at the present time. lots of people are selling horses for less than the stud fee. and lots r just giving up.

Your dreams are at one end of the horsey spectrum to the other. There is no harm in having dreams but you need to be sure exactly what you want. The first thing you need is money and stability. I have no idea how old you are but I think you need to start planning your career or looking for a rich hubby.

if the funding is not there don't go there, its a way to burn money and there has to be so much thought into a foals future before you go ahead and breed
If I were you I'd go spend a year at the best dressage yard you can get work on, so you gain experience and see the ins and outs of being a dressage rider/trainer
working in the equine industry whether as a rider or groom or both as I did is long hard hours, many unpaid! sometimes you don't learn anything by it apart from that you never want to work in the industry again!!!
to breed ponies even on a small scale - is a massive investment of time and money and you really need a 'vision' statement as to why you want to breed, if its to keep the offspring for yourself it is very rewarding owning something you have planned from start to finish, if its to sell on even as a 4 year old, be prepared to loose alot of money year in year out!
fools breed for wisemen to buy!
