>:(I am so sorry to moan but as someone who is very very tired after working another horrendous night shift in the NHS. I am sick to death of my livery yard........................ don't get me wrong the people are nice some quirky but thats ok, theres an indoor school for the winter and its in a fairly good place but well placed for my commute to work. BUT..... the yard owner seems to have a complete disregard for anyone who works (she doesn't) I am sick to the back teeth of having to wait for her to bring in a couple of lveries before I can put my poor pony out. He only gets out about 6 hours a day in the summer and is bored s?*$less in his stable as he is on rations too being a natural porker. I cannot cope any more being either late for work or kept from my bed because of the lack of organising turn out. HHHEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPP

i have a similar situation at my yard. it is a small complete DIY yard so there are no more than three in a field. during winter my mum works and i am a student which means we have to go up at six every morning to turn out. our issue is that the other mare in my field gets turned out by staff (she is the only one who gets this) after eight meaning my mare would be on her own so we have to put out my other mare with her who is prone to laminitis. my yard owner expects us to do this which means taking my lami prone pony from a starvation paddock to knee high grass with no way of gradually building her up. last year was ok because i was at college and only in three days a week with one of those being half days so we could monitor her quite well and restrict her the rest of the week. this year however i will be in uni five days a week. sometimes it feels like our yard owner has no consideration for those who work or study, many of the other liveries work part time at most and some don't work at all bit of a rant but my yard is really peeing me off at the moment for a number of reasons

I wish I could move yards but, this yard "is the best around here, people wait for years to get on there". If this is the best yard, god only knows what the other ones are like.....................................

We have liveries but make sure that there are plenty of summer and winter paddocks as we have 40 acres in all. All of my liveries choose to keep there horses out 24/7 in the summer and although I insist all horses are stabled in the winter they are still turned out sometimes from 6am til 6pm (as all of my owners work). Only 2 - 3 per field. I believe if you offer liveries you MUST have the grass to go with it. Can' abide seeing horses/ponies stabled all the time if it is not nescessary!

After many years, we were lucky enough to buy our own small yard, but memories of some livery yards linger on.......i totally understand the sinking feeling of 'having' to go down and do your horse, wondering who will be there, hushed whispers, need i go on? PLEASE, if your not happy try and find somewhere else and it obviously isnt the best yard around for you. Good luck, you have your horse to enjoy and love it, not to dread going to see hi. (sorry about the typing, my big ginger cat is trying to climb on the key board!!!)

Hey i got a good one aswell. The muppet on the yard with me thought as her horse was in the field on its own she'd take it on herself to put it in with one of mine. It then booted mine. I would never dream of moving anyones horse or putting one of mine in a different field. This is my pride and joy i had to travel 600 miles to find and to date is unbeaten in the show ring. I'm desperately looking to move my 3 ponies before i go NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! North Somerset if anyone knows antwhere!! Looking to try and buy

Why don't you suggest if you buy a bit of electric fencing you could fence up a small starvation paddock for yours, that way he could be out all day without loads to stuff? How would that go down?

Have offered electric fencing, it was declined as is unsitely apparently!! The fields will be closed for the winter soon, leaving one field for all the horses that want to go out, AND you have to tramp your poor horse through a knee deep wet sloshy mess of boggy mud to get there. I am looking a renting a paddock nearby as MY turnout!!! I can get him out as and when I want then!!

As a yard owner I sympathise but can see both sides. If an owner wants to turn out at, say, 6am before any others are up then they would either have to come to a mutually suitable arrangement with another livery in the same field or pay us to turn out later in the morning, say 8am, when the other horse/s were going out. It's not reasonable to expect us to be up and out at 6am so that the one horse can go out. We have 12 boxes and 40 acres so ample grazing and unlimited winter turnout though all are in at night in the winter.
We have another long standing rule that the first person on the yard has to put feeds in and hang haynets (12 stables). This doesn't cause a problem as everyone knows that is the way we do it and no one has to worry that their horse is standing not fed when it is not a day that they are up first. We don't charge for it if we are up first as sometimes our horses are fed and hayed if anyone is up early.

when i was looking to get back into horses i had a choice, livery or rent a field with no water, electricity of stables...I've never done livery as always been lucky enough to have them at home...but....the stories I had heard was enough to make me go for the field option... I love it...so they have no stables...so what! there is plenty of natural shelter, none of them care, and if it gets too cold they have a rug on.
Be brave!

I run a small yard our stables are nice we have plenty of grazing, decent fencing, all year turn out lots of space for all, yet two of our liveries bicker constantly, its now getting to the nasty personal stage with insults and name calling, I'm the manager yet one in particular is disresectful and constantly tries to go over my head to the owner, who luckily backs me at every turn, she is always threating to leave, I have finally flipped and told her that while I think she is being silly she must do whats best for her. This livery has her own field, almost a whole tack room and feed room an extra stable for storage with no extra charge a whole hay store, which is the size of two large stables and constant access to the yard trailer again at no charge. She thinks that she is hard done to!. She hates anyone else being on the yard. So no it isn't just liveries, yard owners/managers sometimes get a rough deal too.

Thanks fleurymare, and all others who have advised. I did speak to the yard owner, she said she didn't realise it was such a problem, so I explained how it affected me, she agreed to try and get the horses in earlier or at least on time. It worked a couple of times but when she was going to make me late agin, I got my horse ready and stood in the middle of the yard so she could see we were ready to go!!! So until I have managed to sort out my own grazing, I think I will still have struggles. I think I get quite irrational through lack of sleep when I am on nights, and am sick of having to drive like Colin Mcrae to get to work on time!!! At least HG will let me vent when I need
