I have dealt with quite a few different societies in my time and after a recent conversation with someone from a horsey society who was d**n right rude, ignorant and totally unapproachable, this sole person has turned me against registering and competing at any of their shows.
Surely if you are at the front of a society you should be promoting it to the best of your ability and shy away from being confrontational? (esp when unprovoked) Surely picking someone who has awful people skills is just going to damage the society?
I'm not saying that they have to become a robot and suck up to people but this person seems to have upset or angered many people, I even heard this person being spoken about in a negative way at a event which had nothing to do with her society or the type of horses they promote, so she must be rubbing an awful lot of people up the wrong way.
I am the first to thank all the time and effort so many people put into shows and organisations for the horsey world, but without the members the society is nothing, surely that means people should be treated with respect as after all, everyone is a potential member!
What does everyone else think?

I can relate to your post. I to think that people that put themselves forward as society representatives should be approachable be able to listen and give an impartial view point. After all why take on such a position if that is not the case? Many society representatives are approachable. The problem is like the judging scenario, you only need the odd bad one to give the rest a bad name. It,s beyond me how some of these people are chosen to represent a society.
You and I could be thinking of the same person.!

They are elected by members and many do not bother to send in their voting papers.
