I do suppose it depends on the show. As a committee member of a RC, you are very glad of any help. I have competed at shows were members of my family have been stewards. They have always been very discreet and not said anything to the judge at the time. I'm sure some can not be as discreet. Thats showing for you!

When I'm judging it makes me uncomfortable. Although some are discreet, some aren't (even if that's just when making small talk between classes and they let more and more slip!) It doesn't affect the outcome in my classes, but if I want to place the relative highly I'm aware there may be some whispers around the ring about "influence".

Under BSPS rules, you are not allowed to steward or judge if a family member is competing. Rule 471 covers the judging angle while stewarding is covered in the paragraph before the stewards list on P106 in the BSPS rule book. Not a clue for any other societies sorry!

If you think the judges opinion will be altered surley that judge is not worth going under and should not be on the pannel

fully agree with hairspray, also think it depends on show, as flashthecash said at RC shows any help is normally welcome

I can't see as any panel judge would take any notice of a steward, you are sooooo busy concentrating on your job, I for one wouldn't listen to a steward.

This can happen in my case as I show and my sister stewards. We have our horses between us and they are a hobby we share. If this happens she always ensures the show organiser and secretary are aware of the situation and keeps well out of the way while my class is on. We do our best not to clash, but organisers ask her to steward at the last minute, and they are usually desparate, and after I have sent off expensive entry fees !

From R/club to County i have been subjected to idiots bantering away with Judge/Stewards..which is the height of bad manners. As in answering back! Call me old fashioned but???
End of day..everyone knows when a horse wins on genuine merrits.
