How many have we all met??.. I'm an expert in demotion down the line..(we enjoy trying and having a good day out.) I'm the first to laugh at myself&horse!! Shame when things turn spiteful and carry on being so after the Event

Lets be honest, we all like to win but we work on the theory that if we have a good day and all behave (horses and people) if we do win then thats the icing on the cake and if we don't then we try again another day after all its supposed to be fun isn't it ?

Absolutely agree Stinkpig - the immense amount of effort, time and money invested in this hobby means it MUST be fun - otherwise why bother? I think it's those people out there who take the whole thing too seriously that turn out to be the bad losers. There's something wrong when the colour of your rosette matters more than if your pony gave his best for you.

Thanks mm, as i said its nice to win but its surely not the end of the world if you don't, i still get really excited about showing and the day that stops then i stop.

I agree with all the above comments but when when horses/ponies are changing hands for vast sums of money you are going to get people expecting to win every time out.

But you can't buy that feeling when you do well and know its the hard work you have put in.

But you can't buy that feeling when you do well and know its the hard work you have put in. Echo that!!! No better feeling in the world than competing on a pony that you have produced and done all the work with yourself!!!!

i work on the theory that i will have a nice day out, and if we get a rosette that is a bonus!! unfortunatley none of mine are world beaters but that doesn't stop me showing them, they also dressage SJ HT etc, so real all rounders....but i enjoy what i do and work bloody hard to get there. after having said that there are certain people who are out to ruin the day for everyone - especially if they don't win, these people are just as nasty and spiteful if they do win, openly laughing at and making snidey , horrible comments to competitors at the bottom of the line, they had one child in tears after telling her that her pony was crap and should be sent for meat and if they lose - well all hell will break loose at the secretary's tent why the hell do these people show?? they must enjoy being sadistic bullies for a start. it is a childish and pathetic way to go on, not to mention the example that is set to their child...... i qite enjoy county shows TBH as the pro's there have much better manners, than these nasty ametures who are under some sort of false delusion that because they buy expensive pre-produced animals that they must be pro's and therefore better than everyone else!!

There is nothing better than standing top of the line much to your surprise and the one in second is tight lipped and staring forward and wont even look your way! I too love my horse as much when I unload as when I loaded for the show a rosette is a bonus.

i think as long as you love the horses ,horse you take to shows the judges opinon if good is a bonus, and if bad they dont have to pay the bills or hold hoof on cold night when the fire works are frightering them.Sorry about spelling
