Why do (slightly) larger shows think that they rule the roost and change their dates without any thought for established smaller shows. The old United Counties show has reinvented itself as Carmarthanshire show and has set itself up on a date far, far from the old three day show. Our show has already weathered clashes with Three Counties and for the first time in about five or so years we do not clash, this new problem has arisen. Could the committees of "new" shows give some thought to the fact that there is a finite "client" base and there are some weekends with no shows in particular areas. We would have likes to compete at Carmarthan so, as a family. we lose out twice.

Do you think the Carmarthenshire show will be any better this year Merlod? beats me how they are going to hold classes for cows, sheep , horses etc all on the same day. It would be good if it has improved but i have my doubts..................

I agree with you merlod, larger shows never give any consideration to the smaller shows and i do think it has an impact on both with regard to entries

all I can say is goodluck to the 'New' Carmarthen show! they took it in the neck previously for running too close to the Royal Welsh and Pembroke County and needed an image change - a year out and now a new date and new look - good for them! whatever date they chose would have caused problems with someone!!! As to running Cattle/Sheep/Pigs etc on one day this is very possible only have to look to the success of shows like Monmouth and Bucks County to see that!!! in fact it means the place will buzz for a day rather than being lack lustre over three with the additional costs of operating overy three rather than one!!! Lets just be thankful that the show is back eh!

had the shedule through the post. noticed that they have lost a number of classes and not affliated to as many breed clubs e.g. shbgb. i bet the ring sizes are going to be dangerously small. will have to wait and see but i wont be entering my stock!!
