I am in real need for an effective calmer for my show pony, who gets either nappy or too forward going in the show ring depending on how she feels on the day!!!!!!!! Never know until the day. Have tried mag based ones but these don't appear to have much effect Any ideas other than the for sale board?

Ooh how bizarre, I was just going to post asking the same thing!
Need one for the buzzier shows, not on an every day basis, but just for show days.
Anyone any experiences of stuff they've used and in what quantities?
Please PM if you would prefer.
Thanks

I've had some success with both Defuse and Tempralax. The Tempralax works as a 50 ml the evening and morning of a show, dose, but I also feed it as a daily supplement to one horse (10ml). I haven't used Defuse for a while, but I think that was 50 ml on the day of the show. Different things with different horses though and you have to work your way through them until you find one that suits. I tried quite a few before I used these two.

I have used supercalm in the past (daily) then on show days, supercalm (comes in little sachets) as a extra boost. My nag has calmed down so much, I can't believe its the same But every horse is different. I think its more trial & error. Good luck.

we have a really naughty show pony, not just saying it like most people exaggerate lol! we tried magic- didn't work diffuse from supreme- sent him the opposite way and then topspec- we love it, saw a difference straight away and now are used for their advertising
different calmers work for different ponies, i know diffuse works brill for some people, just not us. Nupafedd is supposed to be good but dead exprensive.
We just went through them all starting with the cheapest, sounds like we are tight, but you'll eventually find one that suits you and your pony.

That is really strange as we gave our pony Defuse and it sent him totally over the top - totally irrational.

Try Bach Flowers, Rescue Remedy, really great stuff a few drops in a syringe of water seems to do the trick about 2 to 3 hours before going in the ring. Works for riders too!!

ive used magic and that seams to work on my ponies but i hane been through them all in the past and with magic isnt over expensive and it comes in a tub tou can keep them on it or just use it a couple of days before an event i use it as my lad doesnt cope with traveling to well it just takes the edge off them and doesnt overdose them so as they go sluggish pipsqueek

I tried Magic recently after reading the previous thread on calmers but it had no effect at all- have had the best results so far with Temprelax - our pony is very sharp but it does take the edge off....

I have tried the magnesium-based ones but didn't seem to make a difference. Used 3 tubs before I gave it up. Turning out, regular work without getting toooo fit, not over-feeding haylage or hard feed and just keep going out. I don't think there is a quick-fix IMHO. I think this time of year is not the best. Chilly weather can make them sharp. Sap rising and going towards Spring fever! The days are so short for fitting in exercise and turn-out and they are often kept in for longer. Try showing off grass in the Summer, unless the dreaded lami' is a risk. Give them some variety in their work etc etc. Not trying to tell a granny how to suck eggs; just trying to help.

We use SuperCalm from Global Herbs on a daily basis and it does work for our pony and we use the top-up sachets for show days. I used to use So-Calm just at shows but didn't really find it helped and was much more expensive. I was told by my vet that it's best to use something on a daily basis as it obviously stays in the system and the top-ups work with it.

I thought the Mag based calmers only worked if the pony in question was low in Magnesium, not sure if this is right so don't shoot me!!! I have used Nupafeed before and found it great, I started with their recommended dosage and then put the pony on the maintenance dose and that worked a treat because then if you know your going into a stressy/buzzy atmosphere you can give them exra beforehand as a boost.

He was incredibly nappy to the point where he wouldn't move & was threatening to rear, at one point my daughter came off He's also a bit of a pansy with any horses coming up behind him too. We are currently trying him on all the Top Spec products to get his condition up & Nicola suggested trying him on the Top Spec calmer if he has an anxious temperament so we are trialling that at present.

Oh no you dont want him doing that give the calmer a go.It really does work and the cool cubes conditioning they are about £10 a bag and they told me to put her on thebalancer to that is around £35 to £40 it is alittle bit of money but it lasts a very long time on our little ponies,it has really changed her she was the same in the ring even at home but after 2 half weeks she was so good and is working much better because she is happy hope it works on your show pony

Started him on their calmer a week ago. He has fallen into bad ways really through no fault of ours or his own. He came from a good showing home, got sold as he was outgrown & went somewhere new where he was left & hardly ridden as was too sharp for the child. His condition also deteriorated rapidly so we are hopefully now going to try & sort him out. Nicola says if the calmers don't work he is just a naughty pony but she says it does sound like anxiety. He won't be going anywhere until later on in the season whilst we try to work through his issues & get some condition on So fingers crossed!

Oxyshot? Has anyone tried it? The claims in the adverts seem to good to be true - can anyone back them up?

Just started using Topspec calmer and delighted with results. Not too expensive as well.
