I've never hot towelled before, so what and how much do you use in the water to get the grease out of the coat? And does it work on non-clipped coats?

We usually put hot water, very hot, into a bucket then don some marigold gloves, squirt baby oil into the water and dunk a thick towel in. Wring it out well (the marigolds stop you geting scalded!) and rub across coat. Works a treat on unclipped ponies too!

I'm having my first go at this on Friday. Our new pony is going for his first outing & he's a bay. He's quite hairy for a SP but he needs a bit of weight on him yet so don't want him clipped I've just trimmed a few straggly hairs here & there & hope his coat lies relatively flat

I use a couple of squirts of baby shampoo instead of oil in the hot bucket of water, really wring the towel out as much as possible.Used this method on clipped and non clipped to get a shine.

A couple of capfuls of dettol in a bucket of hot water is good. Will bring all the grease, scurf to the surface and leaves a great shine with no greasiness!
