Really praying that she will be fine - have split the foaling box up and put our faithful exmoor next to her - she seem ok - eating and drinking - see what the next few days bring. What was she fed on? So upsetting .................. will defo message if i am worried or need advice x glad to hear yours is doing well x

I lost a mare years ago when foal was 3 months old. No worries - vets all say you "could" wean anyway after 12 weeks as foals are eating grass etc quite happily by then and not so reliant on mum. My mare dropped dead in the field - foal just wandered up a couple of times (was out with other broodmares / foals etc) and then didnt bother any more and just hung around with its friends (other foals) and their mothers. In fact it was the easiest "weaning" ever - foal obviously knew mum was no more and that was it. Stayed in the field, ate grass / hay - came in at weekends and had normal hard feed and never looked back. Just look back on the good times you had with the mare and the lovely foals she gave you.

so sorry to hear this. Mum looked lovely and very kind and although it is very sad in time you will look at your filly and be reminded of mum and the good times you had. RIP Jazz.

Im so sorry to hear about your mare many of us have had a very painful year this time. However at 3 1/2 months she will be absolutely fine!!!!!! I would also just get her some milk pellets to keep her intake add slowly to her hard feed over a few days and I think you wont look back!!!!! With the milk powder they say to wean at 12 weeks so your not really that far off anyway. Good luck and please do get in touch if need be our orphan foal is now 14 weeks old and lost his mum at 4 hours, he looks fantastic and im thrilled with him!!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear your news, it really has been such a rubbish year for so many people. As holiday says above I'm sure your foal will be fine I think our emotions take more of a battering than the foals!!
RIP Jazz xxxxxx

Sorry to hear your sad news, she was a very beautiful mare. I'm sure your foal will be fine too, i bought a foal at an auction, he was barely 3 months old and not with his mum and he'd been through a few auctions he turned out ok. xxx
