I hate to tell you Lolly but groom does not do poo picking - at her last place they had a Predator thingy. Rider girl (who is most important as is really good rider and about 6st - ideal for Little Welsh ponies) is going to come in afternoons now- and bring boyfriend with her!! Whilst writing this groom girl has sent a text saying that at college they were supplied with wellingtons and gloves - do I supply protective clothing? Have all weekend to reply as she does not do weekends (goes with not doing poo picking; not filling water buckets and asking for particular brand of tea bags) so all suggestions welcomed!! Incidentally got some old tea bags out of lorry yesterday and said they were M and S gold when they were actually Lorry cupboard slightly mouldy. She thought they were lovely! Lolly I can't believe you do teenagers, ponies and cook dinner. My kids are (luckily) in the thirties so whichever one is living in the biggest house that year cooks lunch. I think you have a good plan with the shopping as some shops have now started sales and anyone who has horses knows that saving a tenner equals four bales of hay!

I had a French student last winter to help me! As I had so many horses in to do. She'd come in after a 1/2 day ( only did 1/2 days) and use the last of the hot water and, along with her boy friend, would finish off remains of food, leave their dishes on the side ......no hot water to wash up, they then go out in the evening to local pub for a bit to eat.
I'd come in after a busy day, no hot water, no food, and pile of washing up. When asked to do a job she suddenly had amnesia and could not understand simple English.
This winter I am doing the yard on my own same amount of horses than last winter but much easier.

You know Amnmevo I think I am going to have to go back to doing my seven myself. This happened on Friday: Left small pony tied up in yard and went to get bucket of water to wash tail. Came back and found pony missing. Asked girl where is Twinkle. Which one is that she says? Small, chestnut, elderly I say. I've not seen one like that she says. yes, you have I say it was tied up outside the stable you are now standing in. Can then hear munching noise. Go to feed shed (10ft by 10ft) and there is Twinkle standing just inside munching stud cubes. Groom has gone to get something and let pony in, then gone back to shut door and not noticed pony is in there. Oh, she says that one I thought that was called something else! My friends think I am keeping her on for the entertainment value.

Keep her on for our entertainment, infact I will send you my daughter and we can have a double bill Daughter (15)who has up to press been competent in most ways around horses, has suddenly become, dare I say it, "very blonde", Just watched her bringing in her very full of himself three year old wearing designer jeans, diamante belt, g star t shirt and jacket, hair in ringlets with a quiffi thing on top, makeup and false nails. She did put on her Joules wellies fortunately, but announced she had better not get dirty as she was off out after doing the horses ( to meet the boyfriend). Easy enough said when you have 100 yards of two foot mud and puddles to negotiate between paddocks and stables. Anyway Calon Lan performed beautifully, spinning, jumping, snorting and by the time she had arrived at the stable she resembled an Appaloosa with mud splatters/lumps everywhere ;D ;D ;D We then had 'I hate horses, don't want them and so on' she tied him up (try that with false nails) and hastily hit the tack room to clean up, meanwhile Calon undid himself and escaped running all the way back down to the other horses in the paddock. Her face was a picture as well as you can imagine... I just legged it fast for cover along with lorry dog. She has just announced that she is tired after all the excitement of the weekend, her party etc and doesn't think she will go to school tomorrow, but will go shopping instead, yer right madame, that we will see about!!! At least you have the lovely option of being able to sack your'e grooms, how nice is that!!!

Today I did have the help of daughter (5) who was very keen to groom and brush Mr Finely ( sec A also 5) I left her grooming pony while I quickly muck out boxes to come back to find she has brushed main and most of it in curry comb than on pony! I was busy rushing about to get yard done as pony arriving to have a schooling session on his way up to Olympia and the need to be in church by 11am. Daughter then decides she really does want to ride before church. OH is also riding at the same time before starts teaching. 10 min before service starts OH asks me to take horse untack, and turn out as he has to teach.........I arrive at church late door creaks as I try to enter quietly so every one turns to look at me hot flustered with the odd bit of mud splatted ( thanks to turning out OH horse in muddy gate way !)

I don't know how you get family to help at all. My totally unhorsey husband decided to get ponies in yesterday whilst I finished up in yard. Twenty minutes later there is no sign of him. Ponies are all in together and galloping round in mud like they are in 3.30pm at Haydock. How did this happen, I ask. They rushed me in the gateway, he says - and then I see that the whole of his back is covered in mud. I am not sure if I'll get him helping again - especially as I shout stop that you person with no parents - or words to that effect and they immediately assemble meekly at the gate.We had one day without rain too - but the fields will probably just about dry out by next June. We have been here thirty three years this Christmas and the fields have definately never been so wet. I am going to buy shares in a wellington boot company. It will then dry up!

glad to see you are all still well and happy(!) while I have been away in London. Saw Spamalot (brilliant) and Olympia (Friday night) Olympia brilliant except that there were clowns with stuffed dogs on sticks....one stuffed dog appeared in front of me, so wanting to join in I patted it. I was then handed a plastic bone to throw, which I did, badly. I was handed it again. This time I meant business, so I pulled my arm right back, meaning to give it a lot of strength when it flew out of my hand and hit a very posh looking laddy behind me in the eye!!!!!! EXTREMELY embarrassing, my mother was crying with laughter, I could have died... and what makes it worse is that she was beautifully dressed and I think she is a judge!!!! So if anyone hears about someone being hit in the eye with a plastic dog bone it was me!

Last year I used Aubious, really liked it but I did find it expensive, my friend said its because I used it wrong . I would happily change from shavings to something better but dont want to make a expensive mistake having three horses to bed down. I also I finding fetching it a real pain, and really could do with a bulk delivery of something but again not sure what the best option is. Very pleased with Easibed from Giffords, its delivered and is less than £3 a bale and it seems to rot quicker too. Have now just had confirmed that my Labradoodle Poppy is definitely in pup to the Chocolate Labrador from the local Post Office - JUST WHAT I NEEDED - anybody want a puppy? ?

JULES do you realise labradoodles sell for £750 is each, gosh if it has 10 think of the money . We would have liked one but my hubbie will not even think of paying that much for a hound, not that I tell him anyway how much things cost, half everything to do with animals....as you do.... Glad you enjoyed youre london trip, what sandwiches did your mum pack this time.... Def going to enquire about easibed, does it come with a groom too. Also I am moving....to a place in the sun coz in sheffield/chesterfield its dreary and drizzley and no sun to be seen

I realised what a sad individual I have become when it made my day to get three bags of short dated Good-Doer at Half price, yesterday. Perhaps I have got SAD. Is the cure large amounts of strong booze? I saved £12 yesterday in the feed merchants and the local shop has two bottles of Baileys substitute (but pretty good imitation) for £12. Hey, I am a even more cheerful.

try egg nogg instead of baileys i thought it sounded horrid but made it last year it was a creamier more alcoholic version of baileys. also asda do a substitute called irish knights £2.97 its better than meadows. featherstone i am the saddest of sad i would do that too but i look for bargains n ask for discount everywhere. it works as well
