i wonder with so many entries for the pairs adult child classes ect would it be possible to have better way of judgeing them next year .these classes although supposed to be fun are infact being taken more and more seriousley with lots of time and effort going into preperation and clothes ect would it be possible for them to be judged during day so they can do a show together properley and then top 10 go into evening ,all they did this year was walk round and it seemed to be judged on what they looked like alone with no enphasis on their ability to ride as a pair and impress the judges with a nice performance together

agree 100% with you cayo, was a bit of a joke this year, everybody just walking round and round for ages in the pouring rain, then just being asked to leave the ring as you went past a judge under an umberella in the corner, my daughter was really looking forward to this class but was a bit disappointed afterwards, not even a pairs rosette at the end of it either.

same applies to concours ... the concours outfit must be able to be ridden in at a good trot at the very least without flying up in the air, uncovering the riders legs, spooking the animal being ridden, top hat falling off, etc
also and just as importantly, do the judges understand the whole concept of concours d'elegance classes which historically date back to the days when a lady rode in, for example, Hyde Park wearing her BEST RIDING ATTIRE to attract the attention of young men or a potential beau (they didnt have clubs, discos, websites and the like in those days!) .. the gentlemen too were dressed in their best, comfortable riding attire, NOT fancy dress, huntsmen, pirates, busty barmaids, french tarts or brides in full white wedding dress! Bare arms for ladies was also a no-no From this, the side-saddle concours class evolved and subsequently the astride concours classes we find so popular today ... a good idea would be to have separate classes for side-saddle concours and astride concours and to have side-saddle judges (or someone who understands the concept of concours) throughout all the concours classes and, as concours classes were oversubscribed in 2010 and some people were unable to 'get in' to their concours class, introduce a rule that competitors may enter only one concours class @ Equifest what does everyone else think?

Thank you very much for your feedback about the Concours / Pairs classes. We will certainly look into changing these for next year - and will try to move the pre-judging to one of the larger rings so that there can be a "proper" pre-judging for these classes.
Everyone in these classes should have received a rosette - if anyone did not - please either email or pm me with your postal address and I will send you one! Email is: bbranyan@eastofengland.org.uk

I have always found it rather annoying when you take the time and effort to produce a really nice outfit (not fancy dress) and then people come in wearing what they would for an ordinary class, and then getting placed really high. Just doesn't seem very fair to me for the people who have made a real effort.

As the concours class was oversubscribed last year maybe it should only be open to competitors wearing a concours outfit and not just wearing evening performance wear . A good idea to judge it in a proper ring in the day as well , im sure all the children who enter will love that as they get 2 chances to wear a nice costume

I agree. Some of the outfits are elegant and stylish, then you get the fancy dress / bare flesh and 'grab some attention' outfits with the evening performance wear thrown in as well. It really is a lottery as it is not clear what the judges are actually looking for.
