Last season in the summer my youngster came up in lumps down her shoulder but only on her white bits(shes coloured), at first we thought they were sweat lumps from her fly rug or a sensitive skin due to only coming up on the white bits. They went away them seemed to only come back if there was a change of bedding i.e if we were staying overnight at a show, with cold water and aloe vera they went down, No further probs until two nights ago when I stripped her rugs off she has two heavy weights on, she was covered from head to toe in big lumps all over her body they look huge but not sore, she is not off her food and is drinking plenty, We have taken her food off her incase she is getting too much and have dropped her to one rug incase she is over heating, Has anyone had any experience of this? If they dont go will get the vet out just not in a hurry as she isnt in pain and is her normal self Thanks

Sounds like hives, could it be an allergic reaction to something? Has anything in her routine changed?

This may sound strange but check for ticks!! We had this happen to a pony last year, it was only by luck of catching one on him(they drop off once full)that we found out! They sound exactly like what he had. The dried puss got worse! Vet said unusual for horses to get them on body but sometimes seen. Gave us some stuff to spray them with.

Vet been out and she has urticaria (hives) due to the change in her feed too much protien or alergic to something. Hopefully now that we know for def she will be getting the min amount of feed and changing to something better for her digestive system vet has suggested sugabeat and chaff however she will go nutts on beat!

Glad to hear that you've found out what they are and can now do something about them.

A friend of mine had something similar with her dales pony and it turned out to be a staphylococcus infection under the skin causing the pus/lumps etc. I am sure the vet treated him with strong antibiotics for a couple of weeks and the lumps have not come back so far!

you sed ur vet recomended you chaff and beet , but speedi beet works wonders on my littlen . He would useually send me flying if he was given any kind of sugar beet as this is just the monkey he is , but so far (1 1/2 months) later he has not been ticked off by it
