Very shocked to hear this. He was a huge influence on me being the first judge I did an affliated class under qualifying me for the champs in an m an m first ridden class. It was after this I became hooked on showing. He was a great supporter of the showing world and we would always see him out and about. RIP

OMG I am completely shocked we were only talking to him a few weeks ago. Michael got us started in showing 20 years ago when we won an NPS Firstridden qualifier at our local show and we had no idea what we had qualified for! He has encouraged Chloe throughout her showing career and into judging and we owe him alot. Not only was he a hard working and truly dedicated judge and BSPS member but he also had a wicked sense of humour, and was joy to steward for. He will be sadly missed. RIP. With fond memories Lesley and Chloe.

Yes, we will all have our very own fond memories of Michael - and one of mine is a just a few years ago when (together with Linda Impey) introducing him to a KFC supper in Belfast, when we were over giving coaching sessions to NPS Area 32 - Having not done 'fast food' before, what a giggle he thought it was!

I can't believe this. How terribly sad, he was our Area Chairman until last year and such a lovely man. Always kind and encouraging to the children and we have had so many happy days being judged by him (not always winning, I should add!).
He was awarded the BSPS Life Achievement Award 2 years ago which was wonderful and so well deserved. Michael will leave so many very sad friends.
Very very sad news indeed.

Such a sad day. Michael has helped so many people over the years both in the showing world and ,in the past, Pony Club. He always had an encouraging word for young riders and took time to give advice. A truly gentle man and a great personality, he will be greatly missed.....the end of an era. RIP Michael

R.I.P a true gent and a very understanding judge! He was very supportive of us when we showed our mare with her orphan foal at foot, he actually stopped the entire class when the foal wanted a milk break mid walk round! A great judge and a true gentelman!

Have just heard this sad news from my mum (who is on the BSPS committee too) and apparently he had a massive heart attack last night. For a man such as he, what a perfect way to go! Michael was, as so many have said, an absolute gentleman. This really is the end of an era, he was great to steward for, always entertaining and fun to compete under. He will be missed by all, especially those of us lucky enough to be part of his "local lot" who probably took for granted that he'd be here forever! A great life lived!

He had not long arrived for an overnight stay with a good friend and judging colleague prior to carrying out a judging appointment which would have been today. A very big shock for her, too and she is, as usual, coping bravely.

What terrible news..... a great judge and ambassador, he will be greatly missed. But as stated what a way to go, still judging and enjoying his passion right to the end.
We have lost some dedicated and inspirational people this year all will be sadly missed.

shsstablemanager - I did not mean that anyone was 'jesting' I would certainly hope no one could ever do such a thing- just completely shocked by the suddeness, when only last week he was at the Bsps champs. As the facts now emerge, what a terrible shock for the lady in question, thoughts with her and all his many friends at this sad time and as you have rightly said I am sure all of us will have our own wonderful memories.

What a great shame, and a loss to us all. I had the great pleasure of stewarding for him in the NPS Area X1 finals at the NPS Champs, he was absolutely wonderful and I felt I'd made a new friend when we had finished.
