Have I got this right: if you take her alone to a show she's fine. If you go with another horse, she throws a strop when the other horse leaves her.

arrogorn Thank goodness l am not the only one to experience this, somedays it is a total nightmare. They will all travel independantly and be well behaved at shows, but when l take two they are dreadful when seperated. The one left on the lorry goes banana's............Think l will try and take your advice halfpass and get a horse mirror..hadn't thought of that...
The sad thing also is that it can sometimes affect the way they show themselves off in the ring, as a consequence started taking only one pony at a time to a show. Very annoying. I can really empathise with you arrogorn.
Please note that are all absolutely fine when at home....seperating them, stable individuals etc etc.

Well this helped us, worth a try:
Our yard has a private track leading to a circular path around a country park with no traffic. We used to hack down the track together, then go in opposite directions around the park, one clockwise, one anti-clockwise, passing each other twice per lap!! Got them used to working independently but together if you know what I mean!
Are they ridden ponies arrogorn? could you take someone with you who could ride the other pony quietly around the showground whilst you are in the ring?

They are ridden horses, they are fine when I'm on board and working the odd scream at each other. just keep them out of sight at a show. The big mare just goes crazy throwing herself around and digging the floor when I separate them if she is on the box or in her stable. I've started stalling her in her stable but she is going to wreck my lorry when we are away!

halfpass what a good idea about the mirror but that so called coloured would crap his draws if he saw himself hes bad enough with the trees going past the windows so we have to put the partitions so he cannot see through them and a haynet big enough to feed him for a week

You just get a mirror that small enough for one stall and the others cant see it. Coincidenatlly - I just have one left!!! Actually, I thought one of my ponies would have a fit if he saw a mirrow and he actually travels unbelievably well with a mirror and stands on the lorry quietyly which he has never done before. We put it up in his stable temporarily for a week or so before we put it in the lorry. Now Ive had to buy another one for the stable becasue it definately cut down on his cribbing when it was up in there - and added benefit.

My small hunter does the same thing. Travel him on his own he is fine.Take another horse and leave him on the lorry and he goes beserk!!
I found that if I take himoff the lorry with the other horse and then put him back on again, he is fine! I have tried this with a youngster as well and it worked with her too...

My horse will stamp the lorry if were in traffic or at traffic lightsetc. When were on the move he shuts up. When hes tied up outside the lorry he will paw the ground. He's ok stood in the lorry but not too long as he then starts stamping. In otherwords he is impatiant and likes to be on the move

We have had the same problem in the past and I agree with nutwood. When taking one off the box, unload the other and then reload on their own...seems to work a treat. Some horses panic when they can't follow another off the box but when loaded back on their own they seem to forget they were ever there..a dory moment I think!!

my horse paws at the box kicks chunks out the back its a nightmare has broke the fan in the ceiling and pulled up the matting whilst hes pawing . The only way we have found to stop him is to brake sharply i know it sounds awful but a quick sharp shock s better than him injuring himself . please no smites just being honest! as for the other predicament good luck maybe you could take a pony and stand that on the box all day with the remaining horse .....

We had a cob last year that did that - took his front shoes off twice just before he was due in the ring. The new owners hobble him when he travels and that has sorted out the problem. He is quiet in all other ways, it was just the pawing and whipping of his ally plates that was a problem.

Taking the pony off and putting it back on has always worked for me. Also travel the pony on the back so it has to come off first and then put it on the last partition so it can see out over the doors and see what is going on.

Common problem though isnt it, both 14.2 sps iv had were fine on their own but tits when taken to a show with owt else. I usualy take one pony at a time, im a sp free zone now though so my stress levels have decreased!!! Id try a mirror or just take one pony.
