well, to be honest, i know it sounds mean but what else were you gonna do with 12 c0ckerals. They would have started fighting at some point and injured/if not killed/ each other
sorry

It does sound cruel, but it prob is the best thing, they can do some serious damage to each other once they start fighting.
Sorry that your upset, but enjoy the ladies xx

pp I know it's tough but chickens are vile to each other and they would have just fought and injured/killed each other in a much nastier way. It always seems nicer to keep them all alive but nature has it's own way of sorting things out and it's not neccessarily kinder. Once they started fighting you would have had to start having some of the poor injured ones P2S anyway.

Icarus. Necking a chicken is the most humane way of dispatch there is. 2 seconds and it is over and they know nothing. Would love to know of a more humane way.

awwwww is the best thing and quick he could have warned you though, have had to do ill chickens with proper human culler grips ( like pliers but properley shaped) and does it very quick better than electric shock and chopping off heads, i also did the pidgeons that we caught that were causing a problem, and in a way glad i gave them a clean quick death, better than poor horses ending up with respiratiory diseases from the poop x

Know this is horrible for you, but may be he was being kind taking the decision away from you, when you knew it would have to be done.

if my other half just walked in and said that he would be the next bugger to be necked. i know you cant keep them all together but may be if you were given the chance you could of possibly offered them to others. dont know how easy it is to rehome them but its the way he came in and said it that would of got me miffed, he must of know how you would of felt , what a total arse. hope your feeling better to day, and have you found anyone to neck your other half, as if not i am due sometime off and would do it free. xx

I know chickens get despatched and that's the way it is. However, it can possibly be avoided. I bought two day old chicks for my broody hen, they are pure bred Barnevelders. I enquired at a local very nice chicken breeders and they have said they will take either or both if they are male chickens as pure breds can be rehomed or sold, some people do want them. So if yours were rare breeds that might have been possible for them.
Aside from that, if they had to be despatched, so be it, but how dare he do it without even talking to you about it. I seriously would be questioning my judgement being with a man that does that.
I must ask though, did you eat them?
