I saw a police prog once where someone was stopped for the same thing and they were told by the police that the tints are film and they just peeled off, not sure if all tints are like that or if some are actually manufactured that way You will prob have to ask a mechanic. You would think the police would have better things to worry about, but its all about meeting targets these days isn't it

Yes very true, i dont think these can be peeled of. you would think that they would spend there time on other crimes though. and it was alsothe way they stopped me. i thought it was someone or something id run over.

Can you let me know your address and a time and date that will be convenient to pick the shed up? We will be using our horsebox to collect, can you let me know if access will be easy? Kind Regards, Sue

Depends on how 'tinted' the windows are. Did they use some sort of gauge to see how tinted they were. They should do. Some are film and some are the actual glass itself. Shouldnt go through an mot if they are illegal. You are allowed tinted windows on back windows only not on the front ones and not on the windscreen. I would go to somewhere like autoglass and ask them if they are within the legal limit. If they arent you should go back to the original garage you bought them from and play hell, If they are within the legal limit you should fight the ticket.

We dont have the fronts done but all the back is for security as well as comfort from the sun, home done with film, front windows shouldnt be done otherwise you cannot see who is driving etc, and it is an offense if they are that dark. Heres what i copied
Window Tints As of January 1st 2004, new legislation was brought in that prohibits window tinting.
The Law:
You are not allowed to tint your windscreen or front windows AT ALL. Anything forward of the B pillar (middle of the car) MUST NOT be tinted in anyway. You are however still allowed to perform any level of tinting on your back windows.
If you've tinted you windows before January that does not mean that you are safe, if the police believe that your tint causes reduced visibility they can issue you with an order to have it removed.
Why was this law brought in?
The reason this law was introduced was that there was a serious accident between a motorbike and a heavily modified car with very dark tints. It was believed that the root cause of the accident was that the driver couldn't see well enough through his tinted windows.

then i get this so has to allow 70% heres the cut and paste
Some manufacturers are even producing cars with the rear windows already tinted with this in mind. They do not however supply cars with the front windows tinted, with good reason, because there is legislation preventing this. However aftermarket tints can be bought which if used incorrectly can breach this legislation. The law states that any tint must allow at least 70% of the light to pass through them. There are obvious reasons for this of course. If you cannot see clearly through your windows then you might not be able to see that cyclist, pedestrian etc. especially at night

Arthur what would they have charged you with if the kids had fallen off your horse doesnt sound quite right to be honest! Dont think there is such an offence!
If they have cut off your horse's tail it is clear criminal damage for which they can be arrested. they may not be charged due to their ages if they have no previous record but they may be cautioned etc. Some forces are now using youth restorative justice which means they get a telling off and are often made to apologise to the victim and/or pay compensation. Cant see why they have just been let off with no action unless it is impossible to prove it was them that cut off the tail
