I have a beautiful black oriental called Chessica and she is my pride and joy. Of late she has had a huge distended abdomen and very swollen mammary glands, she looked pretty much like and expectant queen. Anyway had bloods done and her liver pancreas and a couple of others were up and they suggested scans, so she went in last friday, i was so upset leaving her as he told me i may get bad news. Well i bl**dy did. I got a phone call in the afternoon to say the good news is she is quite fat but the bad news is she has recently been SHOT!!!! well i have been distraught all week , the vet said i wouldnt have known as she will have kept it clean but that is why she is all swollen and been off. She is a house cat and she literally goes out for half and hour a day. there are only a hand full of people who live near me but i need to calm down before i go round doing detective work!!!!

Oh my god how horrible. Vet told me my cat had been shot once, but turned out it was a small puncture wound where another cat had got hold of her and it just got infected.
Like you - it took me a few days to notice then I kept my eye on it to see if it healed on it's own but didn't so took her to the vet, but by that point it had turned into an abcess.
Antibiotics for a few days and she was right as rain.
Hope she's feeling better soon.

I had one shot too. We lived in a very "nice" coldesac, but one of the neighbours hated all cats.....
He was ok after it was removed and lots of anitbiotics etc

Good lord, there's really no excuse for it. There's lots of ways to keep cats away if you don't want them on your garden, without doing them any damage. Makes you wonder if some people are quite right in the head.

My thoughts are with you......two of mine were shot the same night in July last year..... One of which was obvious ......the other we only found out later that night when he got down from off the top of the wardrobe and couldnt control his back end..... Garfield wasnt 1yr old and had been shot in the eye....although the pellet had gone through the side of his socket so the eyeball was still 'intact'... after nearly 3wks of daily vet visits, who were fantastic i may add...and countless antibiotics/creams and drops..he did end up loosing the eye..... They wouldnt however remove the pellets from either cats as this would cause more damage to them. So garfield still has the pellet behind his socket just infront of his brain...and Felix had his in his thigh next to the bone... It is beyond discription what motivates anybody to hurt an animal...let alone willingly take a shot at them..... The police did get involved as did our local paper who ran a story over it....but nobody was ever caught. I ended up having two weeks off work sick because of the stress of it all. We did do some detective work ourselves but again to no avail..... we did actually move house in the october . I hope Chessica gets better soon,im sure she will.....hopefully there was no internal damage from the entry site? that was the main concern ..... ((((((((((((((((((( .....))))))))))))))))))))))) The Ginger Ninja..... The day he had the op.......

These stories make me very sad and terribly angry. We live in a rural area with very few neighbours and just over a year ago my daughter's cat was shot in our garden. My daughter had moved to our area from a large town in Kent to make a better life for herself and my grandson, and brought her beloved pet cat with her who ironically had spent most of his life as an indoor cat. The day he was shot we found him with half his mouth and jaw blown off. He had to be transferred from our vets to another, 20 miles away who had the equipment to deal with his terrible injuries. He spent 4 days in the vets and when we brought him home they were confident that he would recover from the injuries. Although they had concerns as he was weeing himself all the time but felt he was very traumatised and would be better at home. Sadly Luciano had to be put to sleep within days as my vet discovered that his spine had been damaged so badly that poor Luciano didn't know that he wanted to wee so it was just leaking out. The injury to his spine was consistent with him being brutually kicked prior to being shot. The RSPCA and the Police were involved and a man was arrested however it didn't come to anything.
It is truly beyond the comprehension of a caring person just what motivates these vile monsters to cause such suffering to another creature.

Penstock that picture is so sad, thank you everybody, Chessica is doing well, the vet said it would be a bad idea to remove the bullet as it has gone so far into he abdomen, it would be very stressful and would be a big operation, he also said it shouldnt cause any problems but i have to keep my eye on her. She seems happy at the moment. I just feel angry as i know it must be one of my neighbours as there are only 7 houses and we live in a tiny rural area. They all know how much i love her. Im so glad she has been a lucky one. Thanks for sharing some of your stories as i know they must have been hard to share. i just cant believe how nasty some people can be.

This is so dreadful, why do some people think it is ok to shoot cats. My friends cat was shot, and after he got the better the B**std who did it did it again! and the poor cat died. It makes my blood boil. Hope your poor kitty gets better soon and I do hope you catch the disgusting person that did it ( i nearly said animal but animals are better than some humans)

horrid story .... we have 3 cats and we waited until we moved out into the country so they have fields and woods to play and hunt in ... the thought of them being shot is dreadful but .... before you blame the neighbours ... could it be poachers ... we get hare coursers, badger baiters and poachers after the squirrels round here all with guns and I would think/hope that would be more likely than neighbours being so nasty?

I assume it was an air rifle maniac that shot her? terribly sad how people can do these things..... cats (and horses/pigeons) should be left as they are and not seen as moving targets...

Horrid stories.... makes me feel sick.. thinking of all these poor cats being used as "target practise"
I have two cats and thankfully *touch wood* this has never been the case for any of mine.
I hope Chessica continues to recover and enjoys the rest of her life peacefully.
