It would have been up there for me as well. Wasn't keen on the winner's foreleg, but that's me looking at it from a showing perspective, not a veteran's judging perspective Having said that, it went very nicely and was nicely turned out, unlike most of the others. I'm not trying to be nasty, but I thought the standard of turnout in the class - with a few notable exceptions - was appallingly low

Talking about veterans, I didn't join this year because I think it has got very expensive - however, my pony is in the oldest age group next year and is still fit well and sound , and absolutely full of beans,so I might give it another whirl. The one thing that worries me is the number of unsound and clearly peeed off with the job ponies that appear at some shows. I am torn between wanting to show off my boy and not condoning forcing very old ponies to still compete when they don't want to. What do other people think?

It all depends. I was watching at a show recently where a blatently old grey arab came in and was dog lame. No-one said a word and he then came back into the ring a further 3 times. I wouldn't do 4 classes on any horse! No wonder it looked fed up!
My old boy would be mortified if I suggested he was too old to go to a show and yet my 8 year old would be happy to stay in his field all day and never go anywhere! Found a beautiful 18 year old once who started her career at that age. Loved to jump but not the massive tracks on the hard ground. She was amazing!
Everything in moderation I say and listen to your horse....
I would love to have a go at the VHS shows next year. How does it work?? How do you get to Olympia and how are they judged?? Any particular favourite breeds?
