Can anyone guide me as to correct dress for first ridden. Daughter is currently doing shp lead rein and m & M lead rein. I suspect we dont have the correct gear for these classes either! An overview for all three would be really helpful. Thanks

What type of FR, probably no different to what you've used for LR? M&M and SHP pretty similar for the jockey - tweed jacket (preferably not too bling), shirt, tie and ribbon not too flashy but to complement pony/jacket, jods cream, yellow or canary and brown/oxblood boots, brown gloves, and no button holes. Neat and workman like is more the order of the day. If it's show pony - obviously navy and you can get away with bling (best ask someone else been a long time since I had one and things have definitely got more sparkly since my time!)

That hopefully (can't see photos at work but have copied the link from elsewhere) is a photo of my daughter, who does FR/open classes with her Shetland. As haggismarmite says, tweed jacket (we like light colours with Sammy Shetland as he is so dark), shirt, tie & ribbons to complement - I have a particular hatred for pre-tied clip on ribbons on M&Ms and much prefer loose tied ribbons. My daughter has very fine hair so thin plaits, we therefore use narrow 10mm ribbons for her, doubled up red and gold to match her tie. The picture was early season, so she is also wearing a waistcoat - we ditch that in warmer weather, but it provides an extra layer for warmth in cooler weather. I know some don't like the red ties - too bling for M&M/SHP. However I like the small splash of colour they provide, and I loved our handmade red ties with gold stars from Equineck - sadly lost to us as they were in Horace Horsebox when he was stolen from us (along with the jacket, joddy boots, waistcoat, gloves, hat and ribbons in the photo above and many other items ). Joddies are pale yellow, boots dark brown or oxblood. Brown gloves, navy hat. Oh and not forgetting the elastic or joddy clips. I now sew elastic to the bottom of the joddies as we got fed up forever having to refasten / replace joddy clips. Jockey carries a cane or whip - which is really the only difference from LR turnout for the jockey. SHP turnout for jockeys is the same as M&M. Obviously the pony turnout differs - fully trimmed with plaited mane and pulled/banged tail. For show ponies, replace the tweed jacket with a navy jacket, add a fancy browband to the pony and matching buttonhole to the jockey, making sure that the browband & buttonhole complement the pony's colour and facial markings. Tie & ribbons are selected to coordinate with the browband/buttonhole.
