so i have a very very grumpy grandfather...! He has all the money he could possibly want, and in my view he has too much for his own good! and leaves us to have just enough to get the essentials for the ponies and even living! I have been riding since i was 3yo and im now nearly 16, and not ONCE has he stopped to watch me ride. he has judged shires at shows that i have been to before with my ponies myself, and still doesnt come across to see how im getting on! but the thing that really gets me is that he WON AT HORSE OF THE YEAR! i mean, seriously... he barely speaks to me, never watched me ride, NOTHING and he lives litterally 1 minute up the road. and yet he has so much experience and could really help me achieve my goal (a win at hoys/ri). Oh, and my cousin used to have ponies... guess who bought them... HIM! he has never given me 1 bit of advice, let alone money to get a new pony!
he really does make me laugh how ignorant and selfish he is! oh well, i think that i can bring the best out of my ponies without him... ;D my mum thinks that we are 'the wrong side of the family' which is true, we have never been good enough for him!
i hope you all have a little giggle at this, but also take it as a HUGE MOAN! lol ;D
EDIT- just remembered something else! 2 weeks after my nan had died (my mums mum) my grandad (mum's dad) went to go to have a nice friendly conversation with my grandad... it ended in my grandad saying to my mums dad (who had just lost his wife who he had been with for over 50years!) 'you shouldnt be coming down here and interfering with carol's(my mum) life' HOW LOW CAN YOU GET?! my mums dad then said to him ' i will do as i like, she is my daughter!' good old grandad (the nice one)! ;D

Have you tried being super nice to him??? and showing him what you do, be totally genuine and ask his advice, sometimes people need to be told you love and respect them before they will do anything for you!! It worked for me with my mean old aunty!!!!!

My father denied all knowledge of me till I was 18, to the extent of buying presents for my cousin and giving them to him whilst I was there. But he was the loser as I never wanted to know him and he never got to know his grand kids. You will come out the winner in the end.

Maybe he thinks your only interested because you want him to send money on you? Dont bite my head off its only a thought, why dont you ask him what he thinks of your riding and your pony, maybe make him think that you need his help? If thats not the case then maybe dont give him the saticfation just forget about him

he is one of some of them! he made my nan and my dad have angina!(i dont know how to spell it, but its the thing with the stents) he said that my dad is perfectly fine (considering hes had diabetes since he was 3 years old) and my nan was faking it for attention! selfish or what?!

I find this tread really sad. My parents live in Denmark and I know my mum would give her right arm (and her left) to be able to spend more time with my daughters. Unfortunately the old saying is right ' you can chose your friends but not your family'. I am affraid that personaly I think that for whatever reason you granddad has decided that you are 'on the wrong side of the family' , and I don't think that anything you do will change his mind ( unless maybe you win HOYS!!!). I am affraid that maybe he is just a 'grumpy old man'!

I am saddened to read your post, I lost my parents a few years ago, so my daughter lost her grandparents too, and they were so proud of her and wanted to come and watch her at shows wherever they could. My biggest regret is that my dad (georgias grandad) didnt get to see her ride at Hoys , dont ignore your grandad, try and speak to him, or if he is your dads dad , ask him to intervene and explain how you feel, before its too late. my dad was diagnosed with cancer and died within 8 weeks, so time is very precious...dont let it go xx

my mums dad comes with us to pretty much every show we go to, and he enjoys it so much as he is proud to see me and HIS pony (he bought him for me, as he wanted to get me and my mum something extremely special after my nan died) i love my mum's dad to bits, and he too has got cancer (not sure if hes now got bone cancer too) and we're not sure how much longer hes got so yes, i understand how precious time is, but i dont want to waste it on that grumpy sod. but i will try my hardest. thank you ponymum xx

ohhh what i meant in the first paragraph, was that he owns the company, so pays my dad minimal wage (which gives us not much money as we are a family of 4) -leaving him to work by himself with 3 farms...
hope that makes more sence! lol x

I am sorry but at 16 years old you should be showing your grandad, grumpy or not, a little respect, how can you come on here and slate him on an open forum, to me your first post makes you sound very jealous of your cousin and that he bought them a pony and not you. Be grateful that your grandparent is still alive and to also come on here and say that he gave your nan and dad angina is completely out of order, its a medical condition not something you choose to give to someone. I really think you need to take a good look at yourself before accusing him of being selfish, I just hope he doesnt come on here and read what you have said about him

i am not jelous of my cousins, they are amazing people! but im not jelous of my own family. the whole family have tried our hardest to show respect to him, but all he does is knock us down. i am very grateful that they are still alive, but he has given my nan and dad so much stress over all of the years, he has given them angina. its a fact. he simply has used my father as a slave to do all of 3 farms HIMSELF for nearly 40years and WILL NOT pay someone else enough money to help him out, and my nan like something on the bottom of his shoe. but if you think its out of order, then thats your opinion, and im not going to take that away from you. he has called my mother, every single name under the sun for absoloutely no reason whatsoever. she is a brilliant and intelligent person, but all he thinks of her is that she is a 'lazy fat b***h'. your telling me to look at myself before i acuse him of being selfish... sorry, but i thought that was a bit uncalled for, as i am one of the people who know him the best. This is also supposed to be a little bit of a giggle, the people on here who have had their own experience of this, completely understand me! but those who dont have this experience, are civil but they dont point the finger at me and acuse me, myself of being selfish. if my life was completely perfect and i was having a moan that my grandparents wouldnt buy me a brand spanking new pony then i would call myself selfish, extremely selfish but it is not like that. i have been brought up to 'make do' and respect my elders. (sorry if you take that the wrong way, its not ment to be im just trying to explain how difficult it is! ) sorry again! xx x

Well I obviously dont know your grandad but maybe he is jealous that your other grandad is buying you ponies? Sometimes old people have a funny way of looking at things. My advice would be to do the best you can with what you've got(without his help) and make him proud of you and realise what he is missing! If he thinks(mistakenly) you are after something from him it may put his back up, sometimes old folks can be quite contrary!!

Have you thought about asking your parents to have a quiet word with him about it? Perhaps just go round and say hello, show him some photos of you riding? Suggest doing something together, even if its just going for a walk. Sometimes, by showing people we care a little, we get a lot in return. Remember aswell, he's family-Yeah you cant pick and choose, but it would be horrible to completly cut someone out of your life whose a blood relative. Think about it. xxx

you know what? You are on the cusp of becoming a woman in your own right and if i was you then i would just get on with living your own life, enjoy your riding and put all your efforts into being an independant grown up. Yes, it would be nice if he suddenly decided to grow a heart and be nice and helpful but don't hold your breath and let it stop you acheiving things for yourself. Unfortunately some people just don't do family very well. He's had 16 years to cherish you and its his loss but don't let it eat you up. Be polite and well mannered when you see him though then he'll have nothing to throw back at you. Good luck and be happy xxx (totally understand your rant though, i get cross occasionally on behalf of my daughters that my mother in law doesn't seem interested in their lives like her other grandchildren and never bothers with them at all.)

its been ever since i was riding though, and i got my first pony on loan when i was 7 years old. even then, he still didnt stop to ask me how it was going... and my mum's grandad has only brought me this last pony (riversdale papago) so im not sure whether its a jelously thing. hes always treated my auntie differently to my dad. my mum said she wouldnt let me go to boarding school as my brother didnt go. she has always believed that she should treat her children the same, some of the reason for this is because of my grandfather not treating his children the same. my grandparents used to buy my brother, me, and both of my cousins a magazine a month... this was until they were about 14 or 15. but for me, they thought because they weren't having one anymore, then i shouldnt either! (bearing in mind i was only about 9!) this also happened with pocket money, (£2 a week) and even easter eggs (WHO IS TOO OLD FOR EASTER EGGS?!) crazy as it may seem, its happened. i think my grandparents must be some of the most tight people with their money in the country! lol. i just have to laugh at him though!!! ;D x

You do the best for yourself, sod him, its his loss, we cannot choose family only friends. I know my dad adored me then after 32 years being married to my mum sodded off with his fancy piece, because mum ill and could not meet his needs!!!! so guess what she is now the dictator!! sad my advise is to you is help your self and help others that are genuine friends. Blood is not always thicker than water.

thank you everyone. i find it really lovely that people can understand me, and not just write me off as being a stupid little girl who knows nothing and is just being selfish and wanting him for his money etc. i just feel that i want him to be a part of me and the ponies, but i have given him so many chances, but didnt take them. xx

At 16 you have decided your grandfather has too much money for his own good?
People pick up vibes and I am pretty sure your grandfather picks those up from you.
