After reading a comment in a post from another thread, it got me thinking.
How many judges put up the same pony that have placed previously? Ie is judging from the past and not what they have seen on the day.
And how many judges have given horses major tickets, Ie HOYS and Olympia more then 1 year running?
Im not particularly taking about fixed or facey judging.

It would certainly be an interesting set of statistics to compile, what judge qualified which horse/pony, where, when. I know that societies make some effort to change judges around, so I'm not sure how many actually judge the same qualifier in successive years?

It would be interesting , but people follow certain judges if they know they like their pony ie ...years ago i had three judges qualified my intermediate for RIHS over a span of five years ( inc judging and placing him 2nd at RIHS )....cos i followed them to different venues as i knew they loved him ! So i dont think the statistics would bring out anything really ....but...i suppose it would show if judges were favouring who is sat on top regardless of the pony they are on !!!!!!mmmmm food for thought ...!

I like to see a judge who judges what is there on the day! but i do also like a judge who knows his/her type. I hate judges who have you up one end one week and one end the other for no reason or judges that have a heavy big B in top then a show pony one 2nd. However i do think factors have to be taken into account like how well all the other ponies go on the day and what is in the class. Although it is good to know the type of your judge sometimes if a pony goes champion under a judge one week it doesnt actually mean the judge loves your pony as there maybe nothing there on the day. A friend on mine gets people following her around as they think she loves there pony however it isn't her type just went the best on the day!

I am sure that I have given a HOYS or RIHS tickets to horses or ponies that in previous years have qualified under me.
In my case, if I like a horse/pony for it's type, way of going and ride then it will do well whenever I judge as long as it deserves it when compared to the rest in the class. I feel very strongly that animals should be judged on their merits that day. A horse that has won under me one year will not automatically win the next if it is naughty, unsound or something better comes along.

yeah agree with that clobo121082....you need to take into account what is there on the day ...although where i go everyone always seem to be there !!! Ha Ha !
