They look so cute LP you must be so pleased your baby is being so well cared for just as she is used to. They look very happy together. Loving the hat although a pink sparkly one would suit her better being a daughter of mrs pink and a diva The pressure of maintaining these standards is just too much When I left her an hour ago she was very happy, double rugged up from last nights chills and wandering around with her foster family. I did see the two foals having a hoolie yesterday. Normally they are very quiet under the watchful eye of their nanny and granddad. The teenager delinquent pony does like to play catch but even he knows better if Tansie is around. Its sweet watching them respond to each other and the foals are learning so much without their over protective and bossy mothers around. If we get some more snow (foreccast tomorrow) photos will be taken - promise!!! LP - you know we arent that far away. 45 mins and you are here. Meg now on holiday so come on over with Sam!

Thanks Hatman. Having a foal who was so well handled before she arrived really helps. If she wont come off the headcollar we just push her bum into place. She has honestly only had 3 moments when she tried it on and with the pressure halter she learner quickly and hasnt been naughty for days now.

LP= the baby is fine in the snow. The road to the yard is blocked due to workmen who have made the road collapse, so journey time has increased from 7 to 27 minutes Due to snow friends hayed all of my lot and we got to yard at 10.30 to find all happily brunching, toasty warm in their rugs and happy. Sorry I didnt get any pics - forgot camera and phone photos were rubbish. Velvet has had another growth spurt - very bum high at moment!

She should make 16hh, hopefully not bigger, but dad is 16'2? She was Violets first foal, so hopefully she will stay smaller? I wanted to go visit tomorrow or Tuesday, but further snow on the way

I am not very good at updating this am I? Having spent 2 days in the snow and although very warm in the rugs I thought they needed a break so tonight I brought them in to a stable which is out of earshot of Gracies mum Toffee as she still calls her every morning when she goes out every morning. They are tucked up in a lovely big box on a thick bed with a pile of hay and to prove this here is a shot taken on my phone after they had eaten up their tea. We have some more snow forecast down here tomorrow so I think this is best place for them. MummyPink - the roads are clear and I will call you tomorrow morning with snowupdate.

Just returned from morning stables. Well I say morning, but in actual fact due to the snow our normal 7 minute journey took an hour on the return trip. Snow has stopped and Meg just measured snowfall as 5 inches since 9 this morning. Both foals are in and tucked up warm. I will tell Velvet her mummy is squished when we get there tonight. (might take a long time....) If the forecast rain arrives tomorrow you might be able to get here then

Both girls in the stable again tonight. Started getting a bit crabby round dinner time so thought they could do with a large pile of hay and indoor bed tonight. Left them purring sweet nothings into my ear.... ;D ;D

I'm not at all sure I believe in the small first foal thing, none of mine have been particularly. The prize goes to PB o/o 14.1 D mare by a neat and tidy 16hh AES stallion who made a whisker under 16hh himself - he was half way up her shoulder when born with ears like a donkey. Full sister two years later made a 14.2 jumping pony.
Best thing at Velvet's age is to look at length of leg compared with the dam to get a rough idea, where are her knees and hocks? She looks very well and happy with her friend.

I agree SarahHP. My dams first born is by a 15.2 stallion. She is going to make atleast the same height as her Mum (16hh) as she is already 15.3 at 2.5. Hoping to breed a smaller second foal I piut my mare to a 15hh stallion second time round. When Gracie was first born her hocks were already the same height as her high dams. In retrospect I believe I have got two throw backs to my dams sire - who was 17.1.

Had a lovely afternoon with LP, Sam and her friend Sarah. One of our ponies, Smartie was a total git and tried to mow LP down. Had good telling off and was last seen being ridden around our x-country course which has started thawing out today.
The foals enjoyed the visit and I think there might be a new hat pic loaded very soon.....

Ahhhhhhhhhh - mummy pink has gone all mushy at the sights of mini Diva!!!!!
She looks so well, all rounded and furry, snuggled under her full neck NZ.
Auntie-piggy (HTP) has done such a good job of looking after her, I am thrilled.
Sam said on the way home," it was lovely to see Velvet mumy - but now I have seen her again - I miss her more". Exactly how I feel too!
We know she is in the best possible place though, so that puts our mind at ease.
Piccies to follow, if I can get them off my mobile and onto the computer!!!!
