Soory correct me if I am wrong but do the new transport rules not forbid this, and I think I am right in saying that it will need a traveling groom under the new DEFRA ruls.

The new Defra rules are really complex. I breed ponies and if my interpretation of the rules is right I need some sort of licence in order to transport my own ponies becaause they may be sold and therefore be part of a commercial operation. Does anyone else know ?

I have just used Eric Gillies. More than helpful and very reasonably priced.

Oh god these new rules and regulations.
I am thinking of using a transporter now, thought about it and it will be a 10 hour journey with stops etc and at least £120 worth or petrol. I only get weekends off with working full time and have my own ponies to do as well. I think it may be well worth the extra money to not have the hassle. Has anyone got any good or bad stories on this and anyone you recomend.

skint I think you would find Eric Gillie absolutely fine, they have a web site, not sure what address is but also advertise in h&h. Have used them for years, although based in Scotland they have lorries up and down the country all the time and part loads are not a problem. As long as paperwork and passport is in order they would be most hassle free and probably cheaper than the deisel to do it your self for a long distance. You could always give them a ring and get a quote.

You could also try Enid at Blue Rose, she advertises in H&H, she does a lot of trips to the continent so passes throughout Kent regularly. I can personally recommend her, a bit of a softy and cares very deeply about her passengers. I lways use her if I need to get something moved.

Eric Gillies charged us £250 + vat (293.75) to collect at the top side of Aberdeenshire on Friday, stabling at their home in Kelso for 3 nights and then delivery to Yorkshire on Monday. Very reasonable as it would have been an 800 mile round trip over 2 days for us. I would definately recommend.

Hiya
Thankyou to everyone for all your help. I have finally arranged the tranport at a very reasonable rate. Thanks especially to Armada who got me all the details. I cannot wait now to see my little man.
Bought him unseen (apart from a video) so may arrive with only three legs. First time I have ever done this (buying unseen) I ought to put this on a new thread to get all your horror stories and really make me worry
Thanks though to everyone - people have been so kind and helpful

We have used Enid at Blue Rose many times and she is wonderful. We even named a pony after her that she delivered to us which came without a name!!! We have also used Gillies who are great (usually going north) and Clare Howarth for any ponies going to Wales. All come highly recommended from us.
