4 weeks ago, I broke down with a (lack of) water problem in my 4 x 4. RAC came out (15 mins), treated with radweld, let me drop my trailer off at a nearby farm & then followed me to my destination. Fab service. Unfortunately, the radweld did such a good job that our technicians at work couldn't find the leak - so couldn't repair it. Sunday night, coming home with trailer & 2 bales haylage, got home to hear gurgling etc... gone again. Monday - rang RAC, explained that they couldn't get to me (ice) but that I could nurse it down to the village for them to recover it. This they agreed & arranged to ring me 20 mins before they would arrive to give me time to get to arranged place. I get there & wait about 5 mins - to see an RAC patrol pull up. Explained to him - he said - "they always send a patrol first", "cant recover you, got to be more than 5 miles from home". Over came these difficulties & proceeded to sit and wait for recovery, which I was told would be about 45 mins - i.e. about 11.30. Don't think anyone will be surprised - I was rather cold - especially by 17.30 when they finally turned up. Sorry - rant over.... guess who won't be going back to RAC next year!!!! Oh yes - and guess what - their complaint line is very busy - gives you a recorded message to that effect - and cuts you off.

RAC are crap , last year my brakes failed ( brake pipe had completely snapped ), it took them 5 hours, yes thats right 5 hours to get to me. I had in the meantime walked the 2 miles home with the dogs, collected another car and driven back to where the knackered car was. The guy looked at it and said you need the recovery truck which will take another 5 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said dont bother.OH drove it to a garage 4 miles away just using the handbrake!!! They had the cheek to ring me to ask why I wasnt renewing my membership so I told the guy that RAC are useless, told him my story he agreed that was far too long to wait for recovery and was there anything he could do to make me change my mind and renew!!!!! I said yes do it free of charge

I've had no problems with RAC but i'd be mighty annoyed if i'd been left that long. One of my cars was that unreliable that the RAC man new me and knew were I lived. lol My 4X4 broke down and RAC came, needed a new fan belt so they ordered loader to get me home. It came in half hour.

Ive had bad experiences with both RAC and the AA this year! The RAC told me they would be half an hour when i broke down after i heard a loud knocking by my wheel and i explained to RAC woman it sounded like my wheel was coming off... Several hours later and frozen and dark, someone came out and tested it and said it was probably ball behind wheel, and to hobble home a few miles away which i did. Took it to a garage the next day and was about to leave when mechanic said to come back as the problem was that someone had tried to steal my 4x4 wheel's and each one was on its last thread and very dangerous to drive. The AA were as bad when my mum broke down on a dangerous road in the dark. She explained she was disabled and they said they would be 20 min's...again several hours later and my mum threatening she would dial 999 as she was stuck in such a bad place ,they finally turned up. Told her, her chassis was bent and got her car on a low loader and took her home. Next day the garage she called examined vehicle and said it was nothing but a flat tyre. Both are useless in my opinion..waste of money as we rely on them.
