to follow on from the olympia chat thread , as Clobo suggested, i think we should have a new poll about clapping after individual shows , please feel free to post your views as well as completing the poll i feel it is unfair and shouldnt be done indoors at major championships , what does everone else think ?

Totally against it because some ponies simply are more affected than others and it can be tricky and unsafe for the rider if the the animal is scared.
Not only that, but a few supporters in the audience can easily influence a judge after a particular pony's show..I know it should'nt but we're all humanThat's my tuppenceworth!

Agreed and what is probably the most annoying for me is, when people clap if there is a pony/horse who is frightened by it, people carry on clapping....

Not after each ind/show but certainly on Lap of Honour.. (having learn't to dismount or bundle out of ring promtly on a 180'ing ex-racehorse!)

I see nothing wrong with clapping a good individual performance, but I do object to deliberate over the top whooping and cheering.

I don't like the thought that it could be a device used to manipulate the result.

It doesn't happen at any county shows but clapping is fine after placings!!! Therefore not influencing final decision.

I would only ever applaud during the lap of honour, not at any other time.

How can ponies "get used" to the clapping if there are no shows (especially indoors) where you can go to practice before HOYS or Olympia as there are NONE in Scotland for example where I live and don't travel to BSPS Champs or Ponies UK?
I don't think it's fair to potentially frighten ponies that may be quite green anyway.
It is fantastic to do a lap of honour with clapping and cheering though!

It would never bother me as mine are ok with things like that, but i do feel its unfair after each individual! I think there is no need. Fair enough when they are being placed.

I think it cn be unfair to small children if one child gets many claps and another maybe gets none simply because there is not as many supporters/people with this pony. It is also unfair if the ponies are unsettled by the clapping, if it doesnt' happen at county show it should not be happening anywhere else for that matter; simply for safety!

i think its nice when you've got to hoys and your result rests on that couple of minutes, it will take some of the nerves of you when people show their apprieciation for your show, however it should stop if a pony gets nervous or once a judge is concentrating on the next pony.

I voted no. I have been there when the clapping has upset the pony who had completed its show, and I dont think its fair on the one about to go. The atmosphere is tense enough, especially for the younger riders.

Clapping Should Only Be Aloud When The POnies Are Placed Not Ever After There Shows And If Unfair.

Definately no clapping until the lap of honour. These are sensitive and very often highly bred animals not ballroom dancers!

At Royal London the crowd were asked to stop clapping and whooping as the results were read out but they wouldn't and i child (L/R) fell off and 1 child was grabbed in the nick of time!
There was also clapping after ind shows in the LR which was unecessary and just made them look silly! (IMO)

you should only clap to the lap of honour because i think its bad manners because just that they have finished doesnt mean everyone has.x

very bad manners. clapping should only be done during lap of honour. i think its really bad sportsmanship, when the clapping is done deliberately to frighten certain animals. we are lucky ours dont mind noise or flash photography.

I think people will still clap, just to put off other horses, espcially ones that are a threat, but then we will all know the answer by this time next week.

Clapping seemed much reduced and non existent in some classes over the weekend. i thought it was a great improvement from last few years

Clapping should be definately banned during classes, firstly it unsettles the horses/ponies that could cause an unecessary accident to the jockey, and the fact that in some cases the overall result of the class could be influenced by the amount of support. We were at an evening preformance where the clapping and stamping of feet caused the horses to spin etc could ave resulted in a nasty fall and put the jockeys and horses off for life. Much better to clap at the end when the judging is finalised.

I Dont think it's fair, as its unfair on the next competitor if it unsettles the pony or horse.
Only on the Lap of Honour
