I think it is unfair unless either everyone or no-one is clapped for. At Olympia this year only some ponies had applause as they finished their show which on some occasions upset the ponies that were waiting to do theirs! You can't really blane a pony for getting a little tense when clapping comes out of no-where just as they are going out to perform! I am assuming of course the clapping and cheering was not done intentionally for that reason as I don't believe it was!!!

I don't think it was done intentionally at Olympia, just that some ponies seemed to have a bit of a fan club!
I did notice certain riders were hell bent on getting to the top of the line to be first to do their shows, even when the stewards tried to direct them elsewhere!

I'm beginning to think that maybe these people getting to the top of the line have a point! Perhaps they have had ponies upset by clapping there before!
Fan clubs are brilliant, just not at the expense of other ponies! :-)

clap at the end, not nessary before as clapping before place is silly should be quiet until results are called.. x Just think thoses that dont have an audience may feel more concious when they dont get a clap how embarrassing was it at school if someone got picked on a team and you were last with noone wanting you.... I know its up to the judge who wins but the nerves are there in the class and that just adds to the riders nerves if they feel unpopular in there class,,,, as well as the bigger factor the poor horses spooking, if someone had an accident that could of been prevented seems silly to me and come on ....clapping individual shows? poor children, there ponies have already proven brave and honest entering a ring with all that noise let alone a crowd roar in the shows! bless there hearts! x

This totally bothers me because my pony hates clapping and i know we have to congulate the winner but have some respect for the people who nearly fall off because of excessive clapping!

I dont think there should be any clapping , cheering and stamping feet at any shows, it upsets a number of horses and riders and feel its unfair and takes the fun out of it when your nervous of who is going to be loud and upset your pony/horse. i would give a gentle clap on the lap of honour only after all rosettes have been given .

i dont agree, in novice classes then yes thats fine but at places such a HOYS and OLYMPIA i think you should clap after each show. HOYS is meant to be about the elite horses that qualify, if clapping winds them up then perhaps they are not a childs pony?

I think it show favourites in a way, its like a competition at some shows to see who can get the loadest whooping. xxx

i think after individual shows is daft, clapping windes my horse up when stood still in the lineup but i think that lap of honor clapping is fine!

I agree, Whoo'ing and cheering can get out of hand and should be stopped after each individual show, and i do think clapping is fine for the lap of honour.
However, some people say that if their ponies/horses do spook at the clapping, they arnt suitable to be at shows, as they cannot handle the noise, which then can lead to injuries!

i think at HOYS in the championships it's nice to clap as each pony does it's gallop and in classes in the lap of honour.

NO!! This happened at another show and it IS unfair to the rider. If the pony needs experience then practice at home. It can also (though it shouldn't!!) make the judge feel bad putting them down the line.

I voted yes. The pony before would have had to have put up with it. It's just an extra test upon the pony, and if they can't deal with it then they don't really deserve to be there tbh. I know it sound harsh and all ponies have their faults but clapping from the stands shouldn't be a problem for top class ponies which go to hoys. Xx

its not so much as a polite ripple of applause that is fine for me personally its the stupid whooping and screaming that gets my back up this certainly upsets the ponies and riders and i have seen this purposefully used to upset the next competitor/pony usually from rival camps, i dont do ridden showing but have seen this happen on a regular basis

I'm not sure whether it should be after each horse/pony but I do think it's lovely at the end of a class as it can mean so much to the winner to know people agree with them winning

at the end of the day its ment to be fun and not putting others off.in the lap of honor fair enough but if one rider has more supporters than another it puts the next competitor off! which isnt fair on them or the pony! .x

I feel really bad now. I was at HOYS last year and couldn't help but applaud some shows particuarly in the M&M classes. I was just so impressed with some of the ponies I never really thought of it as being rude!!!
I will have to sit on my hands next time!
