I have just looked up the dates for the BSPS and PUK champs (so I can get them booked as holiday at work before the scrum) and yet again they are virtually on top of each other. The winters are not so bad for us as we are fairly near Towerlands and can justify going there for one day- but the summers? I am hopping!! We do not have traditional holidays as getting the ponies looked after is a nightmare, and so have always had BSPS and PUK champs as our 'holiday' but the thought of trying to do both again this year has given me a headache. In years gone by there was always a healthy gap between the two and doing them both was not a problem but after last year, despite cutting many classes at both shows the ponies were exhausted- I would never put them through that again. By the way I was exhausted too and so were the jockeys but our welfare comes a definite second to the four leggeds. So, for the first time in 25 years I will have to make a decision and one show will be missed. Looking at the calendar there is room to have put on both shows with a gap, are they trying to force us to choose? At the moment I feel like doing neither and can probably envisage the collapse of both societies with the loss of my entry revenue! Seriously though, it is time for both these societies to think of the welfare of the ponies that they are trying to promote, lets have some consultation and give us back our holiday. Rant now over- what do the rest of you think?

Hang on spare a thought for us across the border -- our kids are back at school when the bsps is on so we cannot do it (yes their schooling comes first) so at least you COULD do both, so how about the BSPS moving to the Scottish holidays maybe just once, PUK does clash some years when the kids go back,
so just once it would be nice for the Societies to think about the Scottish Kids-- after all this is the 300 year anniversary of the act of the union --

Hear hear Miss Scotland.I have the same problem.Though I am a adult I always take a teenager as my groom. It gives them responsiblity and looks good on the old cv.But it all depends on when they go back to school.

i agree ...it is too close ...ponies welfare should be paramount and the societies should come together to sort things . I usually only do one as i cannot get enough hols to do both ...and HOYs and RIHS ...royal lancs ...grt yorks ..cheshire etc !!! If my memory serves me correctly then i think they used to be as close up till about 1997 then they had a decent gap up till last year

Very much agree, we tried to do both last year and it will never happen again whilst the shows are on so close. Tired ponies, knackered kids and adults, washing machines going on strike as they tried to cope with a weeks washing in one day, blitzing the lorry to have it ready to go again the next day etc. etc...... If my memory serves me right it is the BSPS who moved week to avoid some children missing the start of a new term. To be honest in the 20 plus years we have been going I cannot remember one jockey ever missing start of term. I do think both champs suffer from smaller entries in some classes due to the scheduling of these shows and that is a shame. It will be very sad to pass up on one of these holidays, BSPS is very professional and there is a certain prestige to a win there, PUK we have great fun... so it is a difficult decision. The only solution is for BSPS to return to its traditional dates.

I agree totally! This year we have swapped and are doing NPS & BSPS instead. Might venture down to PUK for the HOYS qual?

Another Scottish one here. Will have to be PUk as kids back at school for BSPS. Last year my daughter groomed for a friend at PUK, had a day to recover before being back at school. And what did I do to her on that day off, drag her back down south to view a new pony!

yup BSPS all the way for us. After last year will definately not do PUK also now PUK has moved the ground is so much better at BSPS. Love the evening performances na dthe fact all the classes are timed. I always know where i need to be at what time, and the stewards are very helpful letting you join the end of th eline etc. Can't stand not being able to hear the calls at PUK and being miles away from all the rings!
