Hi i am looking for some advice, i've just picked my 13yr old dog up from the vets as he has just had a piece of rubber removed from his intestine. He is refusing to eat and its been 48hrs since the op, i've tried the obvious like fresh chicken and piece of cheese, but not the slightest interested,and its getting to the point where all concerend are getting worried!! any help greatly appreciated x

Is he drinking? I'd be more worried if he wouldn't drink.

I would speak to my vet.
Like Milliesmum, I would be concerned if there was no water intake.

i only picked him up at 5pm today and they are aware of him not eating he came off his drip today so has had fluids, they just want him to eat to make sure everything is working, i have an appoitment for tomorrow, the idea was to send him home as he would be more settled at home he is a dog who dosn't like lots of noise and carry on

Did they send him home with that stinky horrible tin of Science Diet prescription diet food? Ours normally sends them back with it, it's completely liquidised and sloppy, it's been partially digested so that it's very easy for them to swallow and for it to go through their system easily, and though I find it stinks the dogs have always liked it, even if it's just a few licks to begin with.
If not then have you tried something really sloppy like porridge, or scrambled eggs?
Maybe it's still a bit early and he's still a bit shocked if he only came home an hour or so ago.

Yes I haven't opened it yet, will give him an hr or so and then try him with some, he is drinking on his own,just wish you could explain to them that they need to eat

It's great that he's drinking though, that is far more important to begin with, the eating will hopefully come it's still early days, even if the vet wants to have him back tomorrow you still have plenty of time for him to settle in and be tempted to have a morsel.
