Anyone have a Siberian Huskey and horses. Do the two get along ok, what is the breed like around horses? We have had dogs before but never while we have had horses so have never had to do introductions.
My sister and I have two Siberian Huskey pups who we would like to introduce to our horses. They are five months and have had all there vaccinations and are well socialised and are well behaved when introduced to anything new, live up to the breed character of being very friendly dogs.
They attend puppy classes and are well mannered little pups who respond well to handlers control so we have no worries over this aspect of the dogs scaring the horses it is more the other way around. They are quiet pups and the horses are well used to other dogs and puppies and are fine and don't spook at overly excited dogs. We just don't want to scare our baby pups but would like to take them with us eventually as at the minute we either juggle yard duties so they aren't left alone or if both go we have them babysat (how cute).
How would you go about introducing the puppies to make it least scary as possible. They have seen horses from a distance and we did let them sleep in the office at the yard in their puppy crate when they were tiny and we had yard jobs to do so are used to the sound and smells of horses. Do we just walk them around the yard on their lead and let them investigate?
BTW we would have researched the breed prior to getting the pups but they were a very special gift from family who knew we were looking for pups and took us to pick them up before we knew anything. They are lovely but totally new breed to us and noone we know has ever had huskeys before.
Sorry it is so long, just thought it best to post as much info as possible in the hope someone may be able to help. Any help greatly appreciated thanks.
