Have just got back from a new vets , took two female cats to be speyed. Fab service, Both cats came back with pain killers for 4 days, 1 had a micro chip , and both got treatment (advocate) that does fleas, worms and ear mites. The bill came to £80.23, this is almost half the price of my regular vets. How can some vets justify charging so much

you might find its a "loss leader", cant be economic for them to do that for that price. Local corporate vet does cat speys for £15 but you will find that anything else you have done there is twice the price of other local vets otherwise-great value

Yep it might be, but the price of the flea stuff seems very cheap, also forgot they cleaned ears out of one, didnt even charge for that? my usual vets charges to say hello! Jabs are also £10 cheaper, checked out the vets and they all have expertise in different fields, well will be using them from now on. They way things are atm i have to vote with my purse, I do feel quite guilty about leaving my vets, but am sure they could find a way of keeping VERY loyal customers with them. I have 5 cats, 3 dogs, the horses etc, will just have to see how it goes.

Low cost vets at Kettering, but assume they are nationwide? They have a price list on line I think

Not nationwide, just in your area. What a shame. I'm getting fed up with the very high prices charged by vets for simple things. As I have the feral cats it is costing me a fortune getting antibiotics for things like abscesses. At the moment my house cats seem to be getting attacked by the d**n cat from next door who keeps coming up to try and steal food from the feral ones.

Thats a shame roseview, would be nice if your local vets could do you a deal, esp as you are trying to care for the unwanted cats in your area. Do you know how much it costs to get a prescription from a vet, so you can buy stuff on line?

Sadly, they will only ever write a prescription for things like antibiotics for a 5 day course, hence no money can be saved. The tablets themselves are cheap, it's the endless visits for examination that costs so much.

Its does seem odd, or are the other vets just charging too much, i dont know? I have been told that many drugs we pay a fortune for cost pennies, these guys must not be marking up the drug prices? The last time i went i saw a vet the worked at my old vets, she is very good and been qualified for 15 years so its not that they are employing newly qualified vets at a cheaper rate. I dont know just very happy with the price and the good service

gosh, yes I was going to say that is a bargain, I am sure our vets would charge more!! Our cat got run over last year (for the second time) fortuantely was insured as bill was over £3000. Mind you he was only insured for £3000 (thought that would be enough!!) so have still got excess to pay.

I wish they would open a practise in the south east. good luck to them, about time there was healthy competition.

We use Bushys in Cardiff - they have been great - had them out last week for final tet / flu jabs and they poped a micro chip at the same time just for the cost of the chip - £15!
