I have a Rookery filly by crossways jr she is going to be full up 12h and lots of bone.
She needs a job and i would ideally be looking to breed 13h pony sport type if that makes sense ideally shp/hunter type that would become a future pony for my children so foal wouldnt be wasted.
Obviously it will be a 1st foal and cookie is 3yrs old very mature and nearly expected height now.
What type of pony would you use and what height could i go to.
I have foaled mares and worked with mares but always been tb to tb or sec a / shettie etc ive never mixed or tried to achieve a height or stamp before.

Why dont you cross her with a D stallion and get a nice section C which can be a sports pony and a registered Welshie??

It certainly has been done but personally I wouldn't do it for a first foal, and would be very careful about the sort of D I used if at all. I was given an A mare - but a big bodied deep one - who had spent her life successfully breeding Cs by a small neat D stallion, when the stud stallion was changed to a bigger one it was felt he was too big, and with her increasing age too I was allowed to have her to breed As - she had a lovely filly for me and then decided she wasn't having any more foals.
If going taller in height I'd go lighter in build, and take advice from an experienced sport pony breeder like holiday as to which stallion would suit, the owner would know how their stallions tend to throw. I'm not sure I go with the "first foals are always smaller" thing, my old D mare's first foal was by a 16hh AES stallion (she was 14.1, but deep and wide, lots of room to carry a foal) and the resulting foal was half way up her shoulder when born and made a whisker under 16hh himself, the full sister 2 years later was a 14.2 jumping pony. I wouldn't have used a big strong butch WB that height on her, this one had lots of TB in his breeding and was neat and quality.

Rookery ponies seem to be good substantial deep bodied section A's which is why I suggested it. I would use a nice compact 14.2hh section D. I have known plenty who have bred C's from A mares and many have been first foals to older mares.
There are some nice 14hh D stallions about too or use a nice up to height section C.
Good luck with your choice Im a massive Rookery fan myself x

Firstly thank you for your compliments on our stallions!!!! There have been some good suggestions above, I would assume a section A to be a nice roomy type with a good hind and expressive movement, which yes would cross with a D and make potentially a nice Section C pony. Reading your post you are looking to breed a whp/hunter type pony. From my point of view these are different to a "sports pony", which for me would be a pony specifically bred for a certain discipline such as BD, BE or BS and aimed at FEI. However the showing classes for "Potential Competition Pony" would be more true to type of a SHP with athletisium and presence with the potential to be certainly able to do all three disciplines to a reasonable level. I will use a couple of my stallions as an example just because we have a variety and can assume the outcome more easily. www.bathleyhillfarmlivery.com/harrystud.htmIf I was going for a SHP/WHP I would cross with "BH" Chocolate Dream which should put in the elegance and type and would have the potential to also do the PBW and Competition ponies. If I was looking for a truer Sports Pony I would use "BH" Monet, with the movement of the Welsh and the elevation of his paces it would be more towards the disciplines of the affilated classes and the Part Bred Welsh and Potential Competition pony with the possibility of suiting the show hunter classes. If I was looking for the same outcome as BH Monet but with the possibility of colour I would use Daydream. Or for a definate colour outcome I would use Lostock studs Acado. Hope that helps, but I generally work backwards from what I would like on the floor, what classes I would potentially like to do then look at stallions who compliment my mares.
