Can anyone explain why we have to pay £20.00 for transfer of ownership ? I fully understand the charge mid season but when all ponies and members have to join in January and the systems get fully updated at this time, what justifies this high charge!!! Are we all just being ripped off ?

Who is charging £20? Is it a breed society?

I was told that we would have to pay that, even though the pony was last registred with then over 3 years ago! Seems pretty unfair, not my 'fault' that the previous owners had her registred.........

I too have just been 'stung' for the 20.00 to 'transfer' a pony. The pony in question is 17 years old (so his details such as JMB have been static for years) and has not been registered with the BSPS for a number of years. So, the situation is that he must be on their database and I am paying an extra 20.00 for the BSPS to update the ownership details only. They already must have most of the data, such as breeding etc, so surely this 'transfer' makes for an easier data entry than starting from scratch. How on earth can it be possible to justify this expense? I am not even transfering from the people I purchased from. I too understand if this was a genuine transfer mid-way through the season from one owner to another.
Rant over!
Do you really think its worth writing to the BSPS?

ive two to new ones to register this yr so will have to pay £40 ontop of measuring , regd fee , plus jockey and adult showing member....im not even thinking how much! I may even sack bsps and just join nps as £55 covers all 6 of my ponies...

We show under the british miniature horse society and get charged a similar amount. We also get a list of the costs of the society including being able to host a section at HOYS- their income is nowhere close to outcome- make a rather large loss. I suppose this just contributes towards us being able to compete at championship shows etc.

It's so annoying this £20 fee - I had this argument when I bought a pony that had been registered a number of years prior!! And how they justify £20 at the beginning of the year I do not know - £10 for a change mid year is fair enough, but £20 transfer plus the registration fee is ridiculous!
