Hi, we don't take visiting mares as a rule any more except from an occassional friend but we have a 2 yo colt who a few friends would like to use. We don't want to cover any of ours this year so we have told them that they will have to wait till at least 2013 so that he can cover one of our older mares next year before considering taking any outside mares never mind maidens. For what it's worth, if your boy was mine I wouldn't take any maidens in his first year and I wouldn't use him on someone elses mare before covering some of my own first. Then you wouldn't need to think about a reduced stud fee lol Good luck

I would wait. You are being very sensible not to cover any maiden mares especially ones that are not your own Older mares are a god send and will help him along. If your friends like him that much they will come back again next year or even the year after ;D x x x

I'm really confused as the original post has gone!!! I was replying to someone elses post lol Oh well they must have made up their own mind! Foals, you really don't have to say sorry. Using a young colt can be a nightmare with your own experienced mares never mind someone elses maiden mare which is what the original post was about.I just don't think people shouldn't go blindly into taking visiting mares!

We will be looking around Shrewsbury..... I've already seen a place on the internet that I want to go and see and keep checking every few days that it's still for sale!! Barn conversion, 19 acres, stables, out buildings, sand school. Wish I was a more patient person lol
