This year we have lost another Agricultural Show that offered Showing classes with BSPS and NPS qualifiers. Beith Show was held at Rowallan Activity Centre with first class facilities. Apparently last year, Lydsay Wilson, show secretary had received ONLY 34 entries for the entire showing section and decided then that she could not justify offering showing classes for such small numbers when costs are so high. Two years ago we Lost one of the very Best Agricultural Showing Shows when Liz Logan retired as Secretary of Dalry Show and with it we lost a host of BSPS and NPS qualifers. What is wrong with Scottish Showing and why the apathy?

Totally agree bellabella
The entries for all showing shows up here have been very poor - was at Kilmaurs last week and entries were not good for quite a lot of the classes. Was disappointed to here Beith weren't doing showing classes and Dalry is definately sorely missed.
Not sure wether its spiralling costs or something else that is causing the decline but i hope it sorts itself out before we loose too many more good shows.
Saying that i have 5 shows over the next 2 weekends then at least 1 every weekend till the RHS. At least there are still shows going on.

We are obviously local Burnockmill. I heard Kilmaurs was very poorly attended. Such a shame! I know it is cold and windy there but the Farmers Associating will be ready to pull these classes too if competitors don't support them.
Apparently there was an unaffiliated show on recently at Eglinton and had entries of upto 18 in a class.
We do the Welsh and I can count only 7 Shows for the full year where I can take a Welsh D and compete exclusively against only Welsh D's.

Hopefully the turnout at Dundonald today will restore some of your faith bellabella - although not affiliated, the classes were a pretty decent size. I didn't think Beith had qualifiers the last time I went.....2 years ago maybe....but I could be confusing that with another show. Only show I can go to compete exclusively against my chosen breed is our breed show, lol!

Yes Guestless, Dundonald was a breathe of fresh air. It was just fantastic to see the healthy mix of competitors all out enjoying their horses and ponies. I am going to do more at local level to support our local shows and try not to worry about who is judging and get back to the good old days out with family and friends with our ponies. I even showed an Afghan pup in the dog class. What a thrill. We were second! Shame so few classes for you to do too! Dalry used to provide very good Qualifiers for the Connies and the Highlands.
