Johnny was eleven years old and inquisitive to know about things. One day he asked his parents one of those inevitable questions every parent dreads. Johnny: "Dad, what are periods?", he asked his father. "You'd better ask you Mother", replied his Dad, glad to get out of that one. So Johnny asked his Mother what periods were and she decided that now must be the time to explain about the birds and the bees to him, so she sat him down and she set about telling him the facts, while his embarrased Father looked on. When she had finished young Johnny had a very quizzicle look on his face. "Anyway," his Father said, "What made you ask?" "Well," replied Johnny, still very confused, "Julie said she had a double period of geography this afternoon".
