As it says in the title We now have a large breeds mare (fell) and Hannah will need long boots. However considering she is only 14, was thinking that they may be expensive to replace if she outgrows them where as if she has gaiters and short boots, the boots are much cheaper to replace. I am a bit on the fence, I think the pro for gaiters is posted above but cons, I think gaiters are not as tidy looking as full boots. Opinions please ;D

Long boots for me they look the part in the show ring.
I got my daughter some last year, when she was 15 I didnt want to splash out to much as she would be prob be changing shape.
I bought shires ( I think) Shaped at the top, zip up the back, and laces a wee bit up the front very classey only £120 ish.

Oh that sounds ok, I was worried about her struggling to get them on, she has wide feet so zip ups will be good. I am hoping her fet won't get much bigger anyway, she is as tall as me now and feet are a 6, mine are a 7 so she may need another pair but hopefully not too soon as she currently needs a new navy and a new tweed as both outgrown

I think most gaiters are much improved from a few years ago and it is hard to tell from a distance whether someone is wearing them or not. There are a couple of teenagers riding for me this year, and both are wearing gaiters.

I show in SHP classes, and am on a 13.2hh, so I dont actually wear gaiters in the show ring, but when I do dressage, I wear my jod boots, and a pair of gorgeous Ariat leather gaiters. They are very smart, and I would use them in the ring if I was showing a large breed.
