I've been painting and decorating horseshoes as a hobby for a little while, the idea started when i did up a load for my own wedding - not only for decoration but for balloon weights too. I've also done them as gifts for friends as a token of good luck at weddings. Lots of people love them and often say i should sell them, but i'm not really sure if there is enough of a market and wouldn't have a clue where to start even if there was!! So as a horsey community what do you think? Would you buy them? Even if you weren't horsey would you like them? And Where on earth would you start of advertise? Here is a couple of photo's of ones i've done, one is for a wedding and the other a christmas present. Let me know your thoughts

I think they would be a lovely rememberance for a treasured equine. I am not sure about the size of the market though, you would need to do lots of research on the marketing costs etc.

Yes, really nice as a lasting keepsake of a horse, or a momento of a special win or competition - say the shoe your pony was wearing when placed at hoys, or when they qualified - a great way to preserve a special moment.

I think they are lovely, much classier and more personal than the plastic ones the card shops sell! There may not be a huge market but I'm sure there will be enough to cover your costs and a little pocket money besides. Get some stock together and try to get a little stall at a local craft fair, I'm sure by the end of day you will have a fair idea of whether its worth doing or not, and if not, you always know that you are capable of producing unique gifts for your friends and family to treasure! Well done!

I did this too for my wedding and used them as balloon weights they went down a storm, everyone wanted them as keepsakes I should have made atleast 30 more had I realised every one wanted to take them home! Yours are lovely If I were you I would take some samples to wedding shops etc near you and say you could do bows ribbons to match colour schemes etc. Also special memento ones are a fab idea, how about setting up a facebook page?

many thanks for all your encouraging comments (and sorry for putting my post in the wrong area ) They are a wonderful keepsake, and because i can bespoke each one it will be very unique. Of course as many of you say they are not just for weddings, but christenings, birthdays, special horsey moments etc. What would do you think would be a fair price to pay? I was thinking about £15 including the cost of the box, that covers costs and gives a little pocket money too. I love the idea of approaching wedding shops, i suppose there is no harm in trying! Thank you again for your wonderful comments and do keep your comments and suggestions coming Is there a suitable place on this forum i could place an advert, for those who maybe interested Many thanks

I think they are lovely! Would also be nice personalised for an alternative nameplate for stable doors? Also love the idea of remembrance ones and special occasion ones...really like them and am sure if you were to do them on a bigger scale there would be a good market for them...you could even start off with a shop on e-bay and state that you can personalise them as well? Really like them!

Not being funny or trying to be rude or anything, but also think the travelling fraternity would like them as decoration on their bow top wagons or in their trailers...particularly the green one with the coloureds on as the travellers do love their coloured ponies!
Think I would also change the title of your posting on here cos normally I wouldn`t look at anything to do with Weddings and only chanced upon your posting cos I`m bored and reading everything!! Perhaps `Decorative Horseshoes` or `Hand painted and personalised horseshoes` ? Debs xx

Debs xx I don't think your being rude - i welcome all idea's ;D Yes the gypsy community would probabily like them, they do tend to have lots of nice ornate painted items. Hadn't really thought much about the title of my post, i suppose i just went with weddings as that is what i had been doing them for, but actually i've had so many different idea's suggested that yes i can see what you mean - i will see if i can update my post title Again many thanks for all the suggestions - i have lots of idea's now!! I think i asked before, but is there anywhere "official" i can advertise on this forum, in case anyone does what to order?? Have modified my original post title - think it sums it up better ;D

I'd like to have one please if I can find my daughter's 'passed' pony's shoe, shall look in the tack room today. He was THE special one. Just a thought, you might like to have a paypal account set up so people may pay that way.

I think these are lovely! I would be tempted to start a Facebook page and add them to 'The CraftyBum Outlet'.... they tag other homemade arty things and this would fit in a treat. They have a website aswell that you can list your stuff on... probably easier if you just look than me try to explain but I have bought ALOT of stuff, handmade for my 7month old boy off the recommendations on the page!
Good Luck and as soon as I find reason I will be sending you one for sure... you are very talented!!
