The camera makes her look bigger than 13hh. Very pretty girl.
Off to bed too - how lucky are the yard staff to have a late afternoon foaling. Nite nite

question for all you clever breeding peeps, does the foal drinking help with the cleansing? Same way as with humans, breastfeeding stimulates the hormones that make the womb contract?

Bit worried because just had a peep and the mare is backed up against the wall and pawing the ground - looks slightly distressed. Also is it my imagination or have they switched the bedding from straw to shavings and, if so, why?

The last mare that foaled at this yard was very distressing to watch. That foal too was pulled out and the labour was soo long too that the poor mare was so warn out after foaling and couldn't stand for very long. She had to be held so the little filly could have a drink. She looked like she was colicing and it was very stressful watching the poor mare and also poor foaly too who was also having a little trouble. I didn't watch for long as busy with my own horses but the people who did watch were concerned she would roll on her foal but the breeder was constantly watching and stepping in when needed and from the inexperienced eye looked like they had it under control. The filly got cast and within a split second the breeder was in and sorting her out.
The breeder got slated for that foaling too and questions were asked over why she didn't get the vet when it appeared the mare was colicing but the breeder posted that the vet was watching and they were being monitored constantly. The camera was switched to another mare not long after foaling. I am not a breeder so can't pass comment but others were not happy and were very concerned.

I've just been reading some comments on yet another forum, but in this case so 'pro' the barn owner that they were vomit inducing!! Personally, I too was concerned the mare wasn't being left in peace to get on with it. And was it really necessary for a mobile phone to be used, not sure it it was to film the birth or to receive or make a call, whichever, no place for it there! Even today, the mare doesn't look very relaxed. The weather looks good there too so why are they not outside getting some exercise? I know she says the foal has problems but some sun, Dr Green and being able to move about works wonders. I don't think they have enough room in that loose box!
