Where does everyone buy them from, I borrowed one four years ago for this particular mare as she needs an eye kept on her, but thought this time I'd just buy one. I want one with a monitor rather than connect to the tv, but they all seem so expensive. Is there a company that hires them?

I'm going to be getting a wireless camera off ebay and a signal booster for YO's house for her broadband in hope of connecting to her internet so I can watch at home. The signal booster is going to cost me £60 and the camera about the same. Fingers crossed it will work.

you can pick up a wirelss camera for about £35... then you need a receiver.. and if you want it on your PC, you need to inset a little board thing into your PC and buy the software to watch it on...
If the stables are a long way from the house, I would go wired cameras as the signal wont be soo good.
I have CCTV around my house now and my system with 2 cameras cost about £150..

The camera i've seen has a receiver with it. can't go wired as there is a road between house and yard but stable is next to road so not to far away. I didn't think i'd need anything else according to the listing anyway. I'm buying a signal booster for YO wireless signal to boost it over the road. Just hope it works.

I would read the small print or ask what the max distance is between cameras and receiver. Don't forget you need power for the cameras too ( I didn't even think about that) lol

And don't forget that the distances quoted are through clear air! Our stables are about 10m from the house and I can't pick up the wireless signal through the stone wall of our barn!
armada - might be cheaper to get ac amera that connects to a tv and find someone giving away a little tv - I picked one up off freecycle and another off a friend at work!

Don't forget you need power for the cameras too ( I didn't even think about that) lol I have a plug outside my stable ;D The camera would be in the stable and the reciever would be outside the door as that is were the plug is. It wouldn't be more than 60 metres tops to the house. Do you think it would work?

We are about that distance away from the stables fabfern and did'nt have problems last time.
There have been some interesting comments made, and as I have a spare telly in the loft, may try the ac camera option, if it can be done remotely, I'm paranoid about having electric cables snaking everywhere, especially if its damp or wet.

We have a camera in stables and a TV in the house that it connects too. We are wireless and it goes through very thick stone wall and we about 100m away. Cost is 95 in total include fitting. I have no idea how it works. I told the guy what I wanted and he came out and did it! It was excellent last year! S lot easier to keep an eye on mares than getting up and down through night.
