We have a 5 year old connie that came over from Ireland in October and has been a really laid back person, great to hack, flat work improving, xc schooled etc etc.. until.............
A couple of weeks ago, when taking his rug off, I got a horrible electric shock which seemed to come from him - he had one too and broke free (from being tied up) in the yard.
Since then he has been a nightmare to ride - throws himself into fits if you so much as cough - sometimes even on the lunge and is now really nervous in the stable.
Has anyone got any ideas - I feel as if we ought to "de-charge" him!

How strange, never heard of this before. What's the rug made of? Is it nylon? Could it be static?

It was a mid warmth falpro stable rug - we've not used it since but it is the only link we have to explain his changed behaviour, other than he now has shoes on - not that we have had him on the road since

I often get electric shocks (only small ones mind) when I unrug my ponies but I put it down to me as I also get them when closing the car door.
I know my ponies feel them as they look at me strange but it never hurts them in the way that you have described.
What about trying magnetic boots to even out the magnetic fields, you could even ring the company that make them and ask their advice. They used to offer a money back guarantee if it didnt work, might be worth a try!

Hmm, for his behaviour to change so drastically, there's obviously something bothering him, but what? Where is he kept? Do other people besides yourselves handle him? could something have happened that you're not aware of.

it is proberbly the build up of static in the body i used to get it with anytning with nylon in it if you take a jumper off in the dark sometimes you can hear the static when you take it off this normally happens when the warmer weather is here
