I do not know of any County shows that have non registered Part bred ridden classes, therefore all animals have to carry 12.5% and be registered. Many years ago the % was 25% but was lowered back to 12.50% as the higher percentage was not working. That is not to say that horses and ponies carrying more than 12.5% can not win - they can and do at all major shows.
The following part breds won or were placed at HOYS 2012.
128cms Show Pony 1st & Reserve Champion Rotherwood Rainmaker PBA 2nd Roseberry Spiderman PBA 3rd Moscombe Cheeky Girl PBA
138cms 1st & Champion Broadgrove Only You PBA 2nd Rhos Emperor PBA
148cms 1st Dance All Night PBA 2nd Litton Enterprise PBA
Show Hunter Pony 143cms Clemstone Charleston PBA 2 Year running
Intermediate Show Riding Type 1st & Champion Daldorn Racing Bow PBA 1st & Res Champion Valantinos Royal Touch PBA
Small Show Hack 1st & Reserve Champion Whalton Razzamatazz PBA
Riding Horse 1st & Champion Whitakers Prince PBA
Search for a Star Champion Show Pony/Show Hunter Pony Courtland (JP) Charmer PBA

Yes! Although the ponies are catered for with the show pony classes, intermediates etc, these classes have age restrictions on them which stops combinations that may still be very well suited from competing together!! A good idea in my opinion

Part bred classes have never had an age restriction for riders.

December1 i hope my posts didnt sound critical of pba in type classes i admire many of the show ponies and hacks, they are my favourited. But i do know that people enter horses with less than the required 12.5% in affiliated classes. I have had two owners tell me this and i also know of others. I think its maybe because some shows dont ask for their papers with the entry. They alsi dont state on the schedule that they are to be min 12.5%. There is one that won at lots of county shows for years that was less than thr 12.5% but you would never see it in a cherif q.

Springtime, I didn't think for one moment that your post sounded critical. Part breds with less than 12.50% should not be allowed to compete in classes that are affiliated to either the Cherif, or the AHS. That is down to the shows concerned to ask for registration numbers etc. for verification. There are also quite a few part breds with the incorrect % given, but that's another story!!

I think it's a great idea! Maybe people and children could and would keep ponies a bit longer. Plus it gives a chance to ponies who are not quite 'type' enough for sp or shp hoys classes but that are still quality ponies to contend.

Could get 3 extra classes, PBA, PBW & any other part bred registered with relevant society?

A question: If HOYS were to consider having these classes, has anyone any idea as to how much it would cost?

Good idea, but if your horse would be good enough to qualify HOYS for a PBA then why isn't it good enough to qualify for hacks or isrt?
And for PBW, these have hunters, riding horse, hacks, isrt the class would be a lot harder to judge than the PBA , so again if they are good enough in there own sections then they don't need a PBW class at HOYS.

They can be, but how many SP and hacks go in to the Intermediate classes? What do you consider the problem might be if there was a class for these animals?

I think it would be a great idea! They are always such popular and hotly contested classes at RI and in the qualifiers so why not include them at HOYS!
