Our beautiful section A aborted her foal yesterday at 7 months, this was to be our first foal and we were all very excited. Such a sad sad time. And to top it all the mare belongs to my boyfriend and it was his birthday Fingers crossed the mare will be OK. RIP little filly foal xx

Thanks for kind words. Brindlerainbow - i like the pic of your A - how's that bred?
One day over and mare still showing no signs of infections, so keeping everything crossed for next few days. Think she's wondering whats wrong with us keep going in her stable to give her cuddles!!

On no what a shame. I keep worrying about finding a foal in the field with my mare. I keep checking her as I can't check the whole field as it's huge. Hope the mare is ok.

What a horrible thing to happen. I hope your mare is okay. Is there any reason as to why it happened? I've only heard of that happening once before so I think it is (thankfully) quite rare.

Thankyou everyone, you are all so kind. Misty is looking good and happy still so i'm hoping all will be well and we can try again. My vet says he expects to see one case like this a year, although i know a lot of mares slip their foals, her case i think was quite unique.
May - good luck with your first foal, i'm sure everything will be fine for you, and i'm sorry you had to read my post which probably made you feel more worried than you need to be.

It is just an awful thing to happen, but do try again. We had a mare who did this at 8 and a half months gestation, three years ago. She has since gone on to have a completely normal pregnancy producing a healthy, strong colt and is in foal again for this May. We, like you, were devastated and she just took it in her stride like it was the most normal thing in the world. Our foal was a filly too. take care

Sorry to hear about the foal, the same happened to me a few years ago. She went on to breed several foals with no problem. Sadly, the same mare now belongs to friends of mine and recently lost this years foal at 8 months. I had her checked by the vets when it happened to me and they said it was just one of those things but so gutting for us owners. I was cut up about it for ages, wondering whether I could have spotted any signs earlier.

RIP pony i lost my one and only attempt at a foal at birth breech and back to front in my hunter mare) i couldnt cope with even trying to breed another i dont think though with Keisha having been a fab brood mare, maybe that would have been nice in a few years but she sadly died in Nov, Hope your mare will be ok xxx
